Since launching in 2009, the Dubai Metro has connected the city like never before. It really is a boon for residents who don’t drive or those who simply don’t want to. Today, we’re looking at some of the popular residential communities and apartments for rent near Dubai Metro – they’re all within walking distance of a station as well!
STation: Dubai Internet City (DIC)
The Dubai Internet City station services two major areas for work and life – Barsha Heights and Internet City on the opposite side of Sheikh Zayed Road. The towers of Barsha Heights are a hit with 20 and 30 something professionals from all walks of life as well as young families. This is due to the buildings’ many amenities (swimming pools are practically standard) and the abundance of conveniences in the area, from pharmacies to groceries.
Popular towers within 500m of Dubai Metro: Madison Residency, Al Fahad Tower 2, Warsan Tower, Al Shafar Tower,
In good weather: The Greens is pleasant 10 to 15 minute walk away, as is the rest of Barsha Heights.
Station: Business Bay
Despite the name, Business Bay is a thriving, primarily residential community, with a few hotels, hotel apartments and offices thrown into the mix. Living in Business Bay means that you are neighbours with the ‘Center of Now’, Downtown Dubai, but at a lower price tag. The neighbourhood is also well equipped with supermarkets, pharmacies and other convenient amenities, not to mention some world class dining venues to impress guests at.
Popular towers within 500m of Dubai Metro: Executive Towers.
In good weather: The lovely villas in Al Wasl are a lovely walk to the sea-side entrance of the station.
Station: Sharaf DG
The lesser-known Barsha-servicing metro station (to Mall of the Emirates) has its fair share of residences (including newly released freehold options) and mid-range hotels and hotel apartments within walking distance. As one of the city’s more established neighbourhoods, Barsha is dotted with easy to walk to groceries, pharmacies, salons and more – you really don’t need a car!
Popular towers within 500m of Dubai Metro: Our Data team has revealed that interestingly, people tend not to search for particular towers in Barsha, but for areas, i.e. – Barsha 1, 2 or 3.
In good weather: School going children living in Barsha can walk across the metro bridge and reach GEMS Wellington.
ADCB services the vibrant, bustling and positively electric neighbourhood of Karama. While several residents of ‘new’ Dubai only visit Karama to take advantage of its cheap as chips shopping and mouthwateringly delicious eateries, the neighbourhood has undergone a transformation in recent years making it a fantastic place to live. Apart from the odd graffiti by Arcadia Blank, developers Wasl Properties launched an art project last year that saw the facade of the famous Karama Shopping Complex explode with colour and well, art!
Popular buildings within 500m of Dubai Metro: Similar to Barsha, people do not search for particular buildings, but for the area as a whole.
In good weather: Oud Mehta and the outskirts of Karama are all easy walks in cooler weather.
STATION: Jumeirah lakes towers (JLT)
This Dubai metro station is conveniently within easy reach of residents living both in Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) and the Dubai Marina. As even Dubai newbies will know, the towers of JLT are all arguably self-sufficient with their own groceries and spas – or are just a couple minutes’ walk from them. Residents in the Marina are also a short walk away from the metro, thanks to the sea-side entrance to the station.
Popular buildings within 500m of Dubai Metro: Saba Tower, Lake City Tower, Goldcrest Executive.
In good weather: Residents in JBR often stroll across the bridge to catch the metro.
