ABOUT THE SUSTAINABLE CITY
The Sustainable City built by Diamond Developers is a residential community which follows an eco-friendly lifestyle. Established in 2015, the nature-friendly project is the manifestation of the future. It is the first zero-energy project in the United Arab Emirates located on Al Qudra Road. The residential properties part of The Sustainable City are built with the intention to conserve energy. However, the community has not compromised on the extravagance of the homes.
In the past couple of years, a number of sustainable development projects in the UAE have been announced. The thoughtful purpose behind such projects is to ensure a healthy future for the residents and the environment. The Sustainable City is structured 18 miles away from central Dubai. The construction of the community started in 2013 and is expected to reach its full completion by early-2019.

COMMUNITY OVERVIEW
The Sustainable City has been built to conserve energy in order to sustain the environment. Featuring 500 villas, The Sustainable City provides a clean yet high quality of life for its residents. The holistic society features nature-inspired architecture, providing its citizens with a pure and fresh residential environment. Deemed as the best green project in the GCC by Emirates Project Magazine, the community includes solar panels, energy-efficient appliances and car-free zones in both residential and commercial units. Till date, the community has saved 6,741 tons of greenhouse gas emissions, attesting to its sustainability plan.
In terms of keeping the ambience of the community free of pollution, the residents of The Sustainable City are highly encouraged to utilize public transport, horse buggies and drive electrically-charged cars. For the electric cars, there are about 250 charging stations installed in The Sustainable City. The electric buses which run in the community for transport of the residents steer clear of pollution, adding ease to their lifestyle. Since the buses are electrically charged, they are free of cost for the commuters.
PROPERTIES IN THE SUSTAINABLE CITY

The Sustainable City encompasses 500 villas in its development plan. The 113-acre city has divided villas into five residential clusters. Each cluster is adjoined to one urban farm, which is built through the entire community. The elongated urban farm forms Central Green Spine of the city, incorporating 11 bio-dome greenhouses. The total capacity of urban farming is over 3000 square meters.
Since the development of the residential units is based on conservation of energy, the utilization of natural resources reduces your electricity and water bills by 50%. With solar panels installed on the room, each house is built with insulated walls which leads to energy generation, resulting in 25 to 30 kilowatts of power in an hour. Along with this, the residential units come with a plan for recycling water and waste.

Townhouses for rent in The Sustainabe City has two configurations. The yearly rent for 3-bedroom villas starts at AED 175k and goes up to AED 200k whereas the larger 4-bedroom townhouses for rent in The Sustainable City range from AED 195k to AED 200k annually. In terms of space, the homes in Sustainable City are quite spacious, the largest 3-bedroom house is around 3,400 sq. ft while the largest 4-bedroom villa offers a living space of nearly 5,600 sq. ft.

The most popular sub-community is Cluster 2 in The Sustainable City. It is designed to conserve energy with three-step approach that focuses on social sustainability, economic sustainability and environmental sustainability. The next popular sub-community is The Farm.
TRANSPORTATION AND PARKING SPACES IN THE SUSTAINABLE CITY
For each residential cluster, the city has arranged a solar car park. Each of the 500 villas has been reserved with two parking spaces. The parking spaces have built-in solar panels which provide the electricity for street lighting, urban farming and vehicle charging stations without costing a penny.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN THE SUSTAINABLE CITY
Since The Sustainable City is built 18 miles away from central Dubai, the community has no metro or bus stations nearby. Although the community is a car-free zone, there are designated car parking spaces available for residents.

AMENITIES, SCHOOLS AND HEALTH CARE
SUPERMARKETS IN THE SUSTAINABLE CITY
The Sustainable City has a Zoom Supermarket within the community, it is a convenience store which is best for day to day necessities. In the nearby Arabian Ranches Souk, there is a Carrefour Market, in Mudon there is the Geant Express. The Layan community also features a Choitrams to visit, it stocks imported goods from Europe and Asia as well.
As the community promotes an eco-friendly environment, the residents are encouraged to grow their own vegetables in urban farms. The residents have the liberty to enjoy locally grown produce, promoting a self-sustaining lifestyle.
CHURCHES, TEMPLES AND MOSQUES IN THE SUSTAINABLE CITY
The Sustainable City has reserved a place for a mosque in the community. There is another mosque Masjid Salam situated only 11 minutes away from the area.
As for temples and churches, currently, there are none present in The Sustainable City. However, church-going residents have the option of visiting Casa De Oracion Torre Fuerte, a 20-minute drive away from the district. As for other residents, Shiv Temple located on Al Fahidi Street is a 38-minute drive away. For the Sikh residents, Gurunanak Darbar Sikh Gurdwara is situated 29 minutes away from the community.

SCHOOLS AND UNIVERSITIES IN THE SUSTAINABLE CITY
Creating a wholesome environment for families, The Sustainable City has Fairgreen International School in its territory following the International Baccalaureate Curriculum. Also, Creakids Nursery in The Sustainable City offers education for young kids including the EYFS Curriculum, Montessori Curriculum, Norwegian Curriculum and infant/toddler programs as well.
For young adults looking at higher education options, the many universities part of Dubai International Academic City are a 20-minute drive away. As for students looking for colleges; Brighton College is 15 minutes away and Dubai College is a 22-minute drive away.
HOSPITALS AND CLINICS IN THE SUSTAINABLE CITY
The clinics in The Sustainable City offer specialized medical services. The medical assistance in the community follows a holistic approach to diagnose the ailment first and then guides the patient accordingly to its treatment. Such as Miami Autism Rehabilitation Center in The Sustainable City Plaza and The Chiron Clinic which offers an alternative approach to medicine. Also nearby in Arabian Ranches 2 is the Aster Medical Center and Aster Clinic.
The residents can also commute to Emirates Hospital which is approximately 13-minutes away and Medcare Medical Centre which is about 15 minutes away from the zero-energy city.
NEARBY AREAS
The Sustainable City is built in the suburbs of Dubai, it may take time to commute to the central area of the emirate. Built alongside Arabian Ranches, close to Mudon, the Layan and Al Waha communities. The energy-efficient community is just 6 minutes away from the Plantation Equestrian and Polo Club. The club offers various activities including horse-riding and polo with magnificent views.
Showcasing a unique variety of flower sculptures, the beautiful Dubai Miracle Garden is situated 10 minutes apart from The Sustainable City. Along with that, Dubai Motor City is also about 10 minutes away from the community.

MALLS IN THE SUSTAINABLE CITY
Shopping options for the residents include The Sustainable Plaza, a community mall for its residents. Larger malls such as Dubai Marina Mall and Mall of Emirates require a commute of 25 minutes.
Featuring over 1200 premium brands, Dubai Outlet Mall is 19 minutes away from The Sustainable City. Located in Dubailand, the mall offers discounted values to the visitors. The brands available in the mall include top-notch international names including Burberry, Coach, Dolce & Gabbana, Alexander McQueen and many others. The mall is the perfect spot for shopping enthusiasts as they can purchase their favourite brands at discounted prices.
RESTAURANTS IN THE SUSTAINABLE CITY
Serving succulent Thai food, The Sustainable City has the Thai Tuk Tuk Thai restaurant within its borders. Another option for the residents is the beautifully designed seafood restaurant Hook and Cook. The eatery has a lovely seating arrangement inside and outside in the courtyard, where residents can enjoy the surf n turf dishes on a breezy evening.
As for options outside The Sustainable City, the fine-dining eatery Palermo and Freedom Pizza are located 9 minutes away from the community. For a quick grab-and-go, McDonald’s drive-thru and Starbucks are located about 10 minutes away.
BEACHES NEAR THE SUSTAINABLE CITY
As The Sustainable City has been constructed farther away from the coastline of Dubai, it may take some time for the residents to go to a beach. Jumeirah Public Beach, Al Sufouh Beach, Sunset Beach and many others require a commute of about 25 to 30 minutes.
LEISURE ACTIVITIES AND NOTABLE LANDMARKS
The self-sustaining community of The Sustainable City has shops, cafes, restaurants, offices and apartments within its walls. The residents do not necessarily have to go out of the area to enjoy a relaxing time-out.
Many of the utilities for the residents are located in The Sustainable Plaza, covering an area of 15,000 square meters. The building comprises of 5 low-rise blocks offering various services including clinics, tutoring centre, spas, interactive activities for kids and several others.

The Sustainable City does not only provide tranquillity within a hygienic environment but the residents also enjoy the lifestyle the community has to offer.
OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES, FITNESS AND BEAUTY
The Sustainable City offers a range of facilities including a 4 km jogging and cycling track, gyms and swimming pool facilities. The city promotes a healthy lifestyle for those living in The Sustainable City and also hosts a number of sports activities weekly. These activities include bike workshops, football tournaments, mini triathlons and community runs.

The gymnasium in The Sustainable City is also built with the notion of self-sustainability. The one of a kind gym has cycling machines and treadmills which produce power upon being used. If you choose to workout it turns out you are being environmentally friendly and energy conscious.
There are 4 playgrounds built at different intervals in the residential clusters. The playgrounds are a classic embodiment of the eco-friendly idea of the community since the surface of the playgrounds has been made of recycled tyres. Horse riding classes are also offered in the suburban area, with free horse-riding classes for children.
COMMUNITY EVENTS
The community hosts multiple events to keep the spirit of the community alive. Picnics are held inviting all the residents of the area promoting unity and harmony. Social activities are held for all the resident members including the disabled to nurture the idea of equality. This also includes programs like workshops, exhibitions, film screenings and music events. Along with many others, such events encourage solidarity which consequently results in the contentment of its members.

THINGS TO CONSIDER
The Sustainable City is a mega project situated in the suburbs of Dubai. The city-from-scratch project has been successfully built with energy conservation initiatives. However, since the community is not located in the central section of Dubai, the residents might have to spend a long time commuting to and fro. This commute is also not public-transport friendly.
