ABOUT ROLLA AREA
Located to the east of Khalid Lake, Rolla Area is a small yet prominent community in Sharjah. Its prominence is broadened by an array of landmarks and cultural centres that surround the neighbourhood and attract flocks of tourists. The area is termed 'Rolla' after a large banyan tree that once thrived in the area. Rolla is part of the Al Ghuwair development, the neighbourhood is nestled between the communities of Al Shuwaihean and Al Musalla.
A mixed-use development, Rolla Area features both commercial and residential properties for rent and one will find a few recreational facilities in the area as well. It is popular for Rolla Square Park, Rolla Mall and Souq Al Rolla.

The community is made up of undefined clusters of low to mid-rise buildings. The commercial area in the development is divided into several sections for restaurants, electronics and garments.
In terms of commercial businesses, there are many travel and tourism agencies scattered around the lower half of the community. These include Air India Travel Agency, Kanoo Travel, Al Ajwa Tourism and Desert Tourism. Other amenities in Rolla Area include tailoring shops, laundry facilities, textile markets and electronic repair shops.
Offering connectivity with other areas of the city, Rolla Area has Al Zahra’a Street to the east while Al Arouba Street runs along its western boundary.

The features of residential properties in Rolla Area include moderately sized living rooms connected to balconies through sliding glass doors. Developed by Damas Real Estate, one of the tallest buildings in the area is Damas Tower 14. Divided into 24 levels, the tower features 344 commercial and residential units. The commercial units include 96 offices and 22 shops, whereas the residential units are split into 22 1-bedroom and 198 2-bedroom units, three studios and three penthouses. Other features include a gymnasium, central air-conditioning system and covered car parking.
TRANSPORTATION AND PARKING SPACES IN ROLLA AREA
Managed by Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA), options for public transportation in Rolla Area include buses and taxis. There are two bus stations located near Rolla Square Park. The buses cover routes to areas such as Sahara Centre, Muweilah and Al Saja’a.
There is a considerable number of outdoor parking spaces in Rolla Area which are dedicated to visitors. Um Al Tarafa Car Parking Rental is a paid parking zone.

There are many supermarkets in Rolla Area located at convenient intervals. Starting from the north, Al Safeer Supermarket is located on Arabian Gulf Street. Other grocery options in the upper half of the region include Noor Al Falak Supermarket, Al Telal Supermarket and Gharb Al Madina Supermarket. The region below Rolla Square Park features stores such as Fathima Supermarket, Giant Supermarket and Sadrofa Supermarket.
CHURCHES, TEMPLES AND MOSQUES IN ROLLA AREA
Based in Al Yarmook at an ideal distance, there is a cluster of churches near Rolla Area. With a drive of approximately 11 minutes, one can visit Russian Orthodox Church, Rolla Catholic Church, St. Michaels Church, Marthoma Parish Sharjah, St. Mary’s Soonoro Church and Good Shepherd Nepali Church.
Presently, there are four mosques in Rolla Area: Alharamain Mosque, Al Aziz Mosque, Souq Al Ghuwair Mosque and Hamza Ibn Abdulmuttalib Mosque. The fifth one is under construction and is expected to be the biggest in the region.

Rolla Mall is located next to Al Arouba Street and close to Rolla Clock Tower. Rolla Mall is a 6-floor commercial building that has designated spaces for office units and also houses retail outlets, textile shops and shoe stores. This mall is home to a wide collection of home-grown brands which offer products at fixed rates.
Situated in the heart of the area, Rolla Market features alleyways with lots of small shops. There, one can find garments and accessories at discounted prices, haggling is recommended.
One of the most popular destinations for jewellery shopping, Rolla Gold Market features a number of retailers that deal in semi-precious stones, pearls, diamonds, silver and 18 to 24-carat gold. Some of the notable brands include Malabar Gold & Diamond, Damas Jewellery and Kalyan Jewellers.

BEACHES NEAR ROLLA AREA
Accessible to the public, the beach near Rolla Area is Al Khan Beach. A straight drive of 10 minutes via Al Arouba Street will bring beach-goers to this popular coastal destination in Sharjah. The north-eastern corner of the community is flanked by the historical tower known as Sharjah Clock Tower. The Government House Square is near the southeastern corner. The large landscaped area of Round Park lies close to Rolla Area’s southwestern corner and Al Khaleej Square is a landmark easy to spot near its northwestern corner. Standing at a great height, there is also Rolla Clock Tower in front of Rolla Mall.
Spread across an area of 3.7 hectares, Rolla Square Park is without a doubt the most prominent landmark and a recreational attraction of the development. Heavily landscaped, 60% of the park is covered with green areas and the remaining 40% offers walkways and fountains.

Including Rolla Square Park, the numerous landscaped areas around the development such as the Round Park, Al Ittihad Park and Al Muharrah Park offer a lot of space for outdoor activities. Although a popular community in Sharjah, Rolla Area is a commercial hub where traffic congestion and public commotion is common. This may not be appreciated by those who are looking to reside in a relatively quiet residential area.
Since the area has a limited number of villas and three-plus-bedroom apartments, large families will find it difficult to find a suitable property here.
