Managed by GEMS Education, GEMS Metropole School (MTS) was established in 2014. It is located in Motor City and has successfully maintained its reputation as a medium price-range institution that offers quality education.

To support the learning process, GEMS Metropole School provides excellent facilities to its students. Apart from spacious classrooms with interactive whiteboards, iPads, laptops and other supporting multimedia, Wi-Fi internet is available throughout the school building. There are three libraries in the school; Each level i.e. foundation stage, primary level and secondary level has a library.

MTS School has 6 secondary science labs, a primary discovery lab, an innovation room as well as rooms for music, arts and performing arts. Students can also enjoy their time outside the class in the peace garden and student garden. Besides these, the school canteen provides the lunch facility while parents can buy snacks and drinks from the parent’s café upon their visit. 

Talking about sports facilities, Foundation Stage students can use the playground and the PE hall. For secondary students, there is a fitness studio and dance studio, a large multi-purpose and an AstroTurf with markings for the athletic track and the football pitch. In addition, there are two multi-purpose sports halls where students can play tennis, basketball and netball. One can also find two swimming pools where one is a trainer’s pool and the other is the main pool. 

There is an inclusion centre for students of determination and a common room and a study room for Sixth Form students.

School Details

COVID-19 Protocols

The school has been deep cleaned and then disinfected thoroughly using hospital-grade antiviral disinfectant. In addition to this, AC vents have also been fumigated, while additional hand sanitiser dispensers have been installed throughout the school.

The school staff is required to wear full PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and follow a strict process of regular hand washing, replacing disposable items and social distancing. In a similar manner, all visitors including students, parents and staff will be checked for temperature before entering the school premises.

Seats will be placed 1.5 metres apart in classrooms. Bus will operate between 30% to 50% capacity.Also, gatherings will be limited, while any and all international events, extracurricular activities, sports events, after-school clubs, holiday camps and various school events have been suspended until further notice.

Physical education will continue; however, swimming pools will be closed. Students can either attend classes in person or opt for distance or E-learning; schools can and should provide 100% distance learning provisions.

COVID-19 PCR testing is not mandatory for students without travel history. Only those who show symptoms of COVID-19 are required to take the PCR test. The KHDA recommends schools to provide virtual tours. If parents do visit the campus, they MUST follow all the safety measures. This includes wearing face masks and maintaining a 1.5 metres distance.

GEMS Metropole School Curriculum

GEMS Metropole School’s curriculum is based on the National Curriculum for England. The school offers education starting from the Foundation Stage until Key Stage 5 or the Sixth Form. 

Foundation Stage

Please note:

  • Students have the autonomy to choose 4 subjects for Year 12 but can drop one subject when they move to Year 13.
  • Physical Activity and Moral Education is compulsory for all students. However, Muslim students must study Islamic Education. Students with an Arabic passport will have to study Arabic (MoE).  

Nevertheless, parents can choose a UK based education system from a long list of best British Schools in Dubai.

Distance Learning at GEMS Metropole School

The government of Dubai has mandated schools to offer distance learning provisions in addition to in-class learning, especially in the first phase of reopening. Distance learning format might differ from school to school and term to term but students opting for this model will be kept updated on the curriculum followed.

GEMS Metropole was evaluated by the KHDA for its distance learning provisions and was rated ‘Developed‘ – the highest rating provided by the agency.

The Knowledge Human and Development Authority (KHDA) regularly inspects all private schools operating in Dubai. These schools are rated on a six-point scale as presented in the image below.

As per the latest KHDA report, the school has successfully maintained its ‘Acceptable’ rating. Some key areas of the school that were appreciated in the report include:

  • Strategic leadership works successfully to promote a culture of improvement.
  • They provide students of determination with excellent facilities to grow.
  • The environment of the school overall is caring and secure.
  • Strong communication with parents and their involvement in students’ academic career is impressive. 

There are few areas where the school needs to work in a much better way including quality and consistency of teaching and assessment. Also, the teacher and students need to work together to improve the latter’s performance in Arabic as the first and additional language.

Academic Calendar for GEMS Metropole School

GEMS Metropole School calendar spans across 10 months and is divided into winter, spring and summer terms. A summary of the academic calendar is presented below.

The academic year at GEMS Metropole School starts on 31st August. Students go on a mid-term break from 15th to 22nd October and classes resume from 25 October. Winter break lasts from 13th to 31st December.

The Second Term starts on 3rd January. Students get a mid-term break from 11th to 18th February after which classes resume from 21st February. Spring break lasts from 28th March to 8th April.

The Third Term begins on 11th April while 1st July is the last day of the academic year.

Admission and Fees

How to Apply to GEMS Metropole School?

The GEMS Metropole School admission process is relatively simple. The application process starts with completing an online Enquiry form. Upon filling the form, parents will receive a confirmation email with an Enquiry reference number that should be saved for future reference. 

The next step involves uploading all the mandatory documents the school requires. The list includes: 

  • A copy of the applicant’s Emirates ID, a valid passport and residence visa
  • A copy of each parent’s Emirates ID, a valid passport and residence visa
  • 1 most recent passport size photograph of the applicant
  • 1 most recent passport size photograph of the parents
  • Copies of the applicant’s last school reports (for students seeking admission in Year 1 and onwards)
  • Complete medical report and a copy of the immunisation card of the applicant
  • Transfer Certificate from the last school attended attested by:
    • The Ministry of Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UAE Embassy if the student is coming from countries other than America, Australia, Canada, Europe and New Zealand
    • The Ministry of Education if the student is coming from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Oman
    • The Ministry of Education of the emirate if the student is coming from Emirates other than Dubai

Assessments

To secure a spot at GEMS Metropole School, it is imperative that the student meets the admission eligibility criteria as mentioned above and clear the entrance exams set differently for each level.

For entry into Foundation Stage, students must clear a play-based screening test that allows the examiner to observe children’s emotional, social and communication skills.

Students seeking entry into Year 1 and 2 must pass an entrance exam based on subjects of Mathematics and English.

For students applying into Year 3 and forward will have to clear the CAT4 assessment that enables the school to determine the applicant’s abilities in various areas of the curriculum and his or her interaction with the team.

Parents also need to pay AED 525 (VAT included) as the application fee. The amount is non-refundable if the school offers a place to students, but the offer is rejected. This admission fee is refundable if the school does not offer a place to the student. 

The school will also ask for a non-refundable registration deposit of 10% of the tuition fee and a non-refundable re-registration deposit of 5% of the tuition fee

Refund

The school rarely refunds applications; however, under special circumstances, including relocation to another country, the school makes a refund. The calculation for a refund is:

  • If the student was enrolled in the school for 2 weeks or less, the school will deduct one-month fees.
  • If the student attended school between 2 weeks to one month, the school will deduct two-month fees.
  • If the student attended school for one month or more, the school will deduct the entire term fees.

Refund will be made through cheque if parents paid the tuition fee in cash. If the fees were paid with a credit card or online, then the money will be returned to the credit card.

Student Withdrawal and Non-Payment of Fees

In case a student wants to withdraw from the school, parents are required to inform the school at least a month in advance so that MTS can complete all the exit formalities or prepare the Transfer Certificate for the convenience of the student. 

Failure to pay the school fees on time will result in loss of the student’s place at the school. GEMS Metropole School, Motor City has the autonomy to withhold any school report, examination results and suspend or expel the student from the school

Payment 

GEMS Metropole School, Motor City fees can be paid through cash, cheque, bank transfer and credit card. Also, the fee payment can be made either annually or at the start of each term i.e. 1st September, 1st January and 1st April.

GEMS Reward System

COVID-19 Discounts at GEMS Metropole School

GEMS Education is waiving registration, admission and administration fees for all parents after considering the effect of Covid-19. Since GEMS Metropole School is a part of the group, the school is privy to its discount initiative.

Similarly, a mix of deferment of fees, payment plans or discounts will be available will ONLY be available to families who have suffered proven harm from Corona virus. Families eligible for relief initiative include those:

Scholarships at GEMS Metropole School

Being a part of GEMS group, the students of GEMS Metropole School can apply for GEMS scholarship in five different categories including Academics, Creative and Performing Arts, Arabic Studies, Sports and Innovation and Digital Technology.

The scholarship is awarded on merit only and students can waive off 25% to 100% of their tuition fee depending upon their performance in the category they would like to apply. 

In general, to successfully compete in the scholarship program students need to show a record of proven outstanding achievement in the relevant category, submit a duly completed scholarship form along with the most recent school report. They also need to pass certain tests or assessments and then successfully clear interviews conducted by the school principal and the GEMS Scholarship Committee.

Lunch Options at GEMS Metropole School

GEMS Metropole School is an advocate of healthy living; it insists on nutritious and healthy foods as a choice for students. They decide the lunch menu at the school cafeteria in advance. Students can find a wide variety of Arabic, International, Mexican, Continental and Indian food

Parents can send lunch from home,  but they are advised to avoid fizzy drinks and junk food.

School Transportation at GEMS Metropole School

GEMS Metropole School has outsourced the transportation service to School Transport Services LLC (STS). All buses provided by the company are well-equipped with a video surveillance system, GPS and student attendance confirmation scanner

To avail this facility, parents are requested to submit a transport request form to STS Representative deployed at the school. Upon receiving the form, the same representative will confirm the availability of the bus along the route provided and will intimate contact information of the bus driver to parents.

Students at GEMS Metropole School, Motor City are encouraged to take part in sporting activities. Physical activities are incorporated into the school curriculum to allow students to further their interest in sports. 

MTS school students take part in different competitions held in Dubai including DASSA League, GEMS Sports Series and World School Games.

So far, students have enjoyed an overnight Eco Venture trip. Year 4 campers enjoyed the mangroves and rock climbing; they visited Posh Paws. Year 6 visited the Expo 2020 site and Emirates Park Zoo.
