Baniyas International Private School (BIPS) is a co-educational school founded in 2004. Operational for over 15 years, BIPS School is located in Baniyas, Abu Dhabi — an urban community developed by Baniyas Investment & Development Company (BIDC).

Baniyas International School Abu Dhabi is an American curriculum school that offers international-standard education from Kindergarten until Grade 12. ADEK has worked extensively with schools, parents councils, staff members and policymakers to design effective safety measures to implement once schools reopen for the 2021 – 2022 academic session. Here’s a summary of SOPs to give you a better understanding.

• Those entering the school premises must wear a face mask. KG students are exempted. Students and staff who cannot wear masks due to medical conditions must provide a supportive medical certificate.
• Daily temperature and symptoms screening is recommended before leaving the house. Individuals who exhibit symptoms or feel unwell must stay at home. They must see a doctor for assessment and possible COVID-19 testing if required.
• Individuals aged 16 and above who have completed 28 days following the second dose with a UAE-approved vaccine are authorised to enter the school premises upon presenting their vaccination status on the ALHOSN app.
• Children below 16 are authorised to enter the school premises without vaccination.
• The school shall implement physical distancing of 1 to 2 metres between all individuals.
• Schools may follow three operating models: A full school day, attending on a rotational basis or a blended learning model.
• Schools are authorised to reopen all athletic facilities for use during physical education (PE), extracurricular activities, and for private use by staff outside of regular school hours.
• Schools shall reinstate PE (including swimming) classes and all sports activities, provided they are implemented with the relevant risk mitigation controls in place.
• Whether organised by the school or by an external provider, extracurricular activities shall be permitted for students enrolled in the school only.
• Events within the school consisting of large assemblies mixing different student groups are not permitted.
• School trips and inter-school events shall be resumed.
• Cooking on the school premises is authorised, and schools are recommended to reopen canteens if they were previously closed. However, food must be served by a designated staff member to avoid sharing serving utensils.
• Prayer rooms may be reopened.
• Schools are recommended to reopen libraries if they were previously closed.
• Bus capacity has been increased from 50% to between 59% and 66%.

Elementary and Middle School

Middle School at Baniyas American School is designed to support advanced teaching in high school. Research and analysis are the two main skills taught in middle school. Numerous tests and assessments including MAP, CAT4, PSAT and TIMSS are used to gauge students’ attainment in all subjects.

High School

Like middle school, high school prepares students for college and university. Freshman, sophomore, junior and senior years are the four stages of high school. Students graduate with a High School Diploma issued by ADEK.

Besides this, your child can opt for Advanced Placement (AP) courses that follow college-level curriculums in various subjects. In fact, the school encourages students to take more than one AP course over the length of their studies.

As per the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) instructions, all schools across the UAE will discontinue distance learning from January 2022.

Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) aims to strengthen the educational sector in the UAE capital. The agency brings all stakeholders on one page to ensure that educational infrastructure is improved and students are equipped with resources to handle the novel challenges of the 21st century.

ADEK’s Irtiqaa Program includes inspecting both private and public schools in Abu Dhabi. All schools are rated based on the following parameters:

Currently, Baniyas International Private School ADEK rating is ‘Good’. The school management expects the rating to go up in the coming years due to school management’s continuous improvement.

Baniyas International Private School’s academic calendar starts in August and ends in June. The calendar highlights important school events, such as parent-teacher meetings, exam days, result days, school breaks and national and Islamic holidays.

• The first term starts in the last week of August and ends in the second week of December, followed by a three-week winter vacation.
• The second week resumes in the first week of January and ends in the last week of March, followed by a two-week spring break.
• The last and the third term resumes in the second week of April and concludes in the last week of June, followed by a two-month summer holiday.

The admission process at Baniyas International private School starts with the online registration of the applicant. Once it is done, the school requests parents to submit the following mandatory documents:

• A copy of the father’s passport and residence visa
• A copy of the student’s passport and residence visa

• Birth certificate of the applicant

It is unclear whether the school conducts entrance examinations or not. However, parents must ensure that their child fulfils the following age guidelines set by ADEK.

This is based on the age of the students on 31st August (for schools beginning in September).

The ADEK approves the fee structure at Baniyas International Private School Abu Dhabi. It can’t be revised without approval from the authority.

BIPS School in Abu Dhabi serves nutritious and healthy snacks to students in the cafeteria. However, students can bring their lunch from home as well.

To ensure that students reach school on time and safely, Baniyas Private School Abu Dhabi offers transportation services. School buses guarantee that students are picked up from predetermined locations and dropped off at the school safely.

The buses are well-equipped with technology, such as GPS trackers, safety locks, electronic attendance scanners and several other features. Parents need to visit the school and fill out the application form to start using the service.

Currently, transportation charges per child are AED 4,036.5.

Physical development of the child is a part of the school’s curriculum.

At the moment, BIPS Baniyas has a large football field, outdoor and indoor play areas for kindergarten and primary students. Senior students can make the most of an indoor multi-sports hall where they can engage in sports like basketball, throwball, badminton, volleyball, gymnastics and more.

Even though the school website doesn’t mention extracurricular and co-curricular activities, BIPS Baniyas East places high importance on these activities to challenge students at each level. Cross-curricular activities help children develop mental strength.

At BIPS, students are often taken on school trips for informal learning. Children have visited amusement parks, culturally rich sites, and tourist attractions in the past.

A full-time nurse manages the clinic at Baniyas American International School. The medical facility is well-equipped to deal with minor injuries and provide first-aid care.

For major injuries, the school prefers to take students to the nearest hospital.

Communication strategies adopted by BIPS School Baniyas East have been rated highly by ADEK.

First, Baniyas International holds parent-teacher meetings each semester to discuss the performance of students. Teachers and parents formulate a plan to maintain or improve a student’s progress via home assignments.
