COVID-19 Protocols

ADEK has issued a revised set of guidelines and protocols for the safe reopening of schools. Most COVID-19 protocols remain the same; however, some changes facilitate the learning process. The revised protocols are as follows:

  • ADEK still offers flexible learning solutions to students for the current academic year. Schools can opt for the following three learning models:
    • Full Return – All students need to study on campuses physically.
    • Partial Return – half of the student force will study on campus on specified dates.
    • Distance Learning – Schools can offer remote learning facilities to students opting for this mode of learning.
  • All students, faculty members and administrative staff, irrespective of their age or vaccination status, have to produce a negative nasal PCR or Saliva test 14 days before returning to school. The same applies to third-party contractors.
  • ADEK has issued new vaccination guidelines. Students aged 3 to 15 do not need to get vaccinated to return to school physically. However, students above 16 years of age need to get two vaccine doses and complete 28 days of the second dose before returning to school. Candidates must verify vaccination certificates on the Al Hosn App.
  • Parents can now pick up and drop off their children from the classroom if the school allows. However, schools should ensure that parents do not have access to other facilities on campus.
  • Moreover, ADEK has reduced the minimum physical distance to 1 metre. However, schools should continue to take precautions by maintaining a safe space. Staff members and students above six years old should wear a mask at all times.
  • Schools can conduct swimming and sports lessons, holiday camps, extra-curricular activities, after-school clubs and catering services under strict safety measures. Schools must clean and sanitise the changing and sports areas after each group of children.
  • Students are asked to enter the specific gates wearing facemasks. The school has to check their temperatures at the entry points. Students with body temperatures over 37.5-degree centigrade are not allowed to enter. They will be sent home with their parents.

Virginia International Private School Curriculum

VIPS delivers the American curriculum throughout kindergarten, elementary and secondary stages of education. The curriculum is adapted for each grade level to better suit students’ needs.

Kindergarten Curriculum

The kindergarten curriculum sets a foundation where students can establish their understanding of the world. Subjects such as language, art, music, science and mathematics are taught through activities set in a play-based environment.

Elementary Curriculum

For Grades 1 to 5, VIPS further strengthens the foundation laid at the kindergarten level. The syllabus revolves around the following interconnected aims:

  • To cultivate and build on the love for learning from a very early age
  • To deepen children’s understanding and appreciation of the world ahead of them
  • To instil good habits and skills necessary for subsequent stages of education

The school aligns its curriculum with the US Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for Mathematics and English Language and Arts (ELA) for core subjects. It also incorporates Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) subjects.

Secondary Curriculum

VIPS considers the secondary stage as the most vital stage of education for students. Students acquire skills that help them choose a career. Therefore, the school has a balanced curriculum ensuring a holistic learning experience for students.

The secondary stage curriculum revolves around the overarching themes of creativity, innovation, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, cultural awareness, character and core knowledge. The school continues to follow the same standards as in the primary stage. For more information, refer to the secondary stage curriculum of Virginia International Private School Abu Dhabi.

Distance Learning

The school has a comprehensive distance learning program for KG1 to Grade 10.

Students in Grade 11 and 12 can choose from face-to-face learning or distance learning. The platforms used by the school include Class Dojo EPIC, Kahoot, BrainPop, Google Meet and Khan Academy. For more information, read the Virtual Distance Learning Programme (VDP) guidelines.
