Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge worked with other governmental organisations and bodies to develop revised COVID-19 protocols to offer a safe learning environment to students for the academic year 2021-2022. The protocols are as follows:

• ADEK is continuing schools to offer flexible learning plans to students during the pandemic. Schools can opt for any of the below-mentioned options to start the academic year:

  • Full Return: All students have to return to school for on-site learning

  • Partial Return: Half or some students will be asked to attend on-site learning and continue learning via distance learning. Students from different groups will be called on alternative days.

  • Distance Learning: Complete remote learning at homes.

• Students, staff members and those that are part of the school, irrespective of vaccination status, have to submit a negative COVID-19 PCR or saliva test 14 days before returning to school.

• ADEK has changed the COVID-19 vaccination policy for the years 2021-2022. As per the new policy, students aged 3 to 15 do not need to be vaccinated to enter the school’s premises. Students aged 16 years or above have to be vaccinated twice to return to their schools for on-site learning. They also need to upload their vaccination certificates on Al Hosn application.

• Parents can now pick up and drop off their children at school. For this, the school must comply with the COVID-19 protocols, and parents will not have access to the school except entry and exit points. For more information, contact the school.

• The acceptable minimum physical distance is reduced to 1 metre considering current health conditions in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra regions. Staff members and students above six years old have to wear a mask at all times on campus.

• Schools are now allowed to conduct swimming and sports lessons, holiday camps, extracurricular activities, after-school clubs and catering services under strict health and safety measures. Schools must clean and sanitise the changing and sports areas after each group of children.

• Students are asked to enter the specific gates wearing facemasks. The school has to check their temperatures at the entry points. Students with body temperatures over 37.5-degree centigrade are not allowed to enter. They will be sent home with their parents.

• The second term starts in the first week of January and ends in the fourth week of March. The midterm break is expected in the mid of February, while the school remain close after the second term for Spring break.

RBS has two canteens– one for girls and one for boys. The canteens serve nutritious and healthy meals and snacks prepared by a third party catering company every day and is open from 07:30 am to 02:00 pm.
