Overview

Founded in 1997, Al Mawakeb School in Al Barsha is the second branch of Al Mawakeb Schools, managed by Academia Management Solutions International (AMSI). The original campus is in Al Garhoud, and the newest campus opened in Al Khawaneej. Al Barsha campus is a private international school that offers co-education until Grade 4. 

The school delivers a US-style curriculum from kindergarten through to Grade 12, with English as the medium of instruction from Grade 1 onwards. Students range in age from 4 to 18 years.

Al Mawakeb’s curriculum aligns with Massachusetts state standards and UAE Ministry of Education guidelines. On graduation in Grade 12, students receive a high school diploma recognised internationally, preparing them for higher education around the world. 

The Al Barsha campus educates over 3,000 students supported by around 189 teachers and eight teaching assistants, plus four guidance counsellors. This yields a teacher-to-student ratio of roughly 1:17.

Kindergarten Level

To develop language skills and reading literacy from a tender age, the school takes assistance from three languages including French, Arabic and English. The kindergarten section has a tri-lingual program where students are taught three languages – English, French and Arabic. These languages are treated as the language of instruction or additional language.

Elementary School

At this stage, they teach children to adopt a more independent approach towards studies. Learners have the option to select Arabic B, French B, and Social Studies and Islamic Education in English.

Middle School

Middle School at Al Mawakeb is designed to support advanced teaching in high school. Research and analysis are the two main skills taught in middle school. Also, students appear in many tests and assessments to gauge the level of attainment in all subjects. These tests include MAP, CAT4, PSAT and TIMSS.

High School

Just like middle school, high school presents a ground for students to prepare themselves for college and university. High school consists of four years where students go through freshman, sophomore, junior and senior years and graduate with a High School Diploma issued by the KHDA.

Apart from this, your child can opt for Advanced Placement (AP) courses that offer college-level curriculums in various subjects. The school encourages students to take more than one AP course during their studies.

Admission and Fees

How to Apply to Al Mawakeb School, Al Barsha?

Al Mawakeb School admission process is non-selective and simple. However, before starting the registration process, make sure that you have the following documents ready to submit to the registrar.

  • A copy of the applicant’s passport with valid residence visa, original Emirates ID (both sides) and birth certificate
  • A copy of parents’ passport with a valid residence visa and original Emirates ID (both sides)
  • Copy of custody papers (if applicable)
  • A copy of the student’s last year school report
  • Grade 9 to 12 applicants must present a Letter of Good Conduct from the last school attended.
  • Results of MAP and CAT4 tests from the previous school
  • Students applying from Dubai need to submit the original Transfer Certificate (attested) and transcript from the previous school.
  • Students from other emirates need to submit the original Transfer Certificate and transcript from the previous school duly attested from the appropriate Educational Zone.
  • Students coming from outside the UAE need to submit the original Transfer Certificate and transcript letter from the previous school (either in Arabic or English) duly attested by the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and UAE Embassy in the country of origin.
  • All new applicants will have to clear an assessment test and an interview.
  • The school will not disclose the result of the assessment and interview until and unless parents provide the mandatory documents to the registrar.
  • Once the documents have been submitted, parents are required to proceed with the payment.
  • The school sometimes offers special and academic support classes; hence parents are required to sign the suggestions.
  • Registration will be cancelled if the student does not attend the school for three consecutive weeks without any advance notice.
  • Students from outside of Dubai applying for admission will have to provide original and legal transfer papers before September.

The Principal and Senior Leadership Team can accept students with special educational needs and people of determination (SEND) after ensuring that the school has educational conditions and environment to meet their special needs.

Parents will be contacted by the admissions team within two working days. If you do not receive any communication from the school within this time, please check the junk email first or send an email to amsbarsha@almawakeb.sch.ae.  

Parents can find the registration ID in the email they receive when the required documents are successfully submitted for registration.

Cancellation and Refunds

Cancelling registration before the start of the academic year and receiving books and other school gears will cost 10% of the tuition fee to new students and 5% to current students.

Refunds apply in certain circumstances. The calculation for refunds are directed under the following method:

  • If the student attends school for two weeks or less, one month’s fees will be deducted.
  • If the student attends school between two weeks and one month, two months’ fees will be deducted.
  • If the student attends school for more than a month, one term’s tuition fees will be deducted.

Scholarships at Al Mawakeb School, Al Barsha

Al Mawakeb School has an academic honour and award program for students that show outstanding performance in academic and non-academic fields. The award granted is in the form of a letter of achievement or partial scholarship to the student.

However, only students from Grade 7 to Grade 12 are eligible to receive academic honour or award. The certificate of achievement or award is presented by the AMSI alumni.

Lunch Options at Al Mawakeb School, Al Barsha

The cafeteria isn’t available for kindergarten and Grade 1 students. Parents are advised to send healthy and nutritious meals for kids to have in their classrooms under the teacher’s supervision. After lunch, children are allowed to go to the playground.
