With so many new restaurants always popping up across the city, from fine dining to more casual fare, it can be hard to keep track. Luckily, MyBayut has you covered, with some fantastic concept restaurants that you should definitely try the next time you feel peckish, or worried that you know the local fast-food number better than your own. Here’s our pick of some of the coolest, tastiest and best concept restaurants in Dubai:
Molecular gastronomy usually brings to mind a lot of liquid nitrogen, snail porridge, a la Heston Blumenthal, and a big fat bill at the end of the meal. However, nothing could be further from the truth at Spice Klub in a nondescript corner of Mankhool. Sure, there is liquid nitrogen created drinks – their Mango on the Rocks drink is worth writing home about – but the brains behind Spice Klub have carefully thought about how to fuse the concept of molecular gastronomy with Indian cuisine, resulting in dishes that are fresh, delicious and affordable. All of this is complemented by knowledgeable staff, quality service and gorgeous, Instagrammable surroundings that one wouldn’t normally expect from an unlicensed, vegetarian restaurant.
So if you’re looking for a molecular gastronomy restaurant in Dubai and fancy Indian cuisine, hit up Spice Klub.
The Fish House
One of the newest, freshest concepts to hit the Dubai foodie scene is The Fish House. Built on a philosophy of ‘boat to table’, the powers-that-be at The Fish House do their level best to use locally sourced seafood and other ingredients to create simple yet powerfully-delicious dishes that will keep you coming back for more. The clean and contemporary restaurant can be found in Festival City’s InterContinental Hotel, where the rustic Bistro Madeliene once was. While the concept of The Fish House is completely different, and they undoubtedly have big shoes to fill, they do so with ease!
In fact, the only thing that is difficult at The Fish House is limiting yourself to try just one dish. We recommend going with something from the daily catch section, cooked to your liking, with your choice of sauce – the helpful staff are happy for you to go off-menu, should you want to. And don’t forget to try some of their mouthwatering desserts once you’re done…!
Dubai-based celebrity chef Izu Ani is the consultant chef for this fantastic restaurant and concept store in the ultra-trendy Dubai Design District (D3). The Mediterranean-inspired menu uses fresh ingredients, whether in the tapas (small portions that are perfect for a quick snack), bakery and boulangerie products to the more filling main courses and delicate desserts. What we especially love about the restaurant is its vibe – with their shaded outdoor garden to the bright white interiors, thoughtfully selected music and friendly, multicultural staff, you’d be forgiven for feeling like you are somewhere in Europe.
While you’re waiting for your meal, The Lighthouse also has a carefully curated concept store, filled with artsy objects, books, textiles and design items. Or, check out their impressive list of adult beverages.
Intersect by Lexus
Eating in a car dealership might sound rather odd, as styrofoam cups of instant coffee with some half-day old croissants are usually the extent of what’s on offer, but Intersect by Lexus, billed as a dealership, retail space and cafe in DIFC, is actually a very good place to enjoy some delicious food, and maybe set up with your laptop to get some work done, while you’re at it. The surroundings are undeniably chic, as Lexus is Toyota’s luxury offering, after all, but it’s still welcoming. The kitchen is helmed by the charismatic chef Tomas Reger – known for being a sought-after private chef who also helped found Dubai’s secret supper club events – and serves diners contemporary cuisine with a subtle Asian flair. What we particularly like about Intersect by Lexus is the fact that they’ve managed to tick the boxes of delicious cuisine and quality service, although how Dubai feels about its location remains to be seen.
Life’n One is a homegrown wellbeing centre in Dubai, founded back in 2014 when the concept of wellbeing wasn’t quite the buzzword that it is today. This tucked away Jumeirah Beach Road cafe, is a veritable oasis, with everything you need to be the best possible version of yourself. From a diverse variety of yoga, barre, meditation and pilates classes, to treatments such as kinesiology and sound therapy, along with workshops for the entire family, Life’n One is one of the Dubai wellness community’s secret city retreats that is well worth a visit.
However, Life’n One isn’t just a wellness centre with a cafe tacked on for good measure. The founder of the centre has made sure that her cafe contributes positively not only to her patron’s taste buds and health but to the environment as well. They eschew the use of microwaves, induction ovens, frozen and canned good as well as additives such as MSG, refined sugar and Aspartame – instead, the focus is on local and organic produce and they even have a detox menu. It’s a gorgeous, kid-friendly place to while away an afternoon, and we can’t wait to go back.
