The best beaches in Dubai and beach clubs are a must for residents and tourists alike. While you can’t exactly tour all of them if you’re just visiting, you so can and should find the time to give each of them a chance if you’re a resident. So, without further ado, here’s a checklist of Dubai’s beach spots that make the biggest splash.
THE BEST BEACHES IN DUBAI
1. JBR beach (Dubai Marina, opposite JUMEIRAH BEACH RESIDENCE)
What can we possibly say about JBR that hasn’t been said countless times before? Parasailing, banana boating and many other watersports, as well as a never-ending row of extraordinary al fresco venues at the beach-adjacent retail complex, The Beach. Whatever the words, the emotions will always be there. We adore JBR! Here’s how you can rent an apartment near JBR beach.
2. KITE BEACH (Umm Suqeim, just off Jumeirah Beach Road, near Jumeirah Beach Hotel)
Remember how we just said we adore JBR? Well… we might love Kite Beach slightly more. It’s a little less commercialised than JBR, with hipster restaurants, friendly salespeople selling second-hand books, quirky hats and so forth. At the same time, it’s just as sporty as JBR, if not more, with beach volleyball courts, beach soccer fields, skateboarding, jogging tracks and, of course, kites. Kites everywhere! Browse villas in proximity to Kite Beach.
3. Burj Beach (Umm Quqeim 3, Opposite the Burj Al Arab)
Are you on Insta? Nothing says ‘I’m having the time of my life’ like a snap taken at the pristine Burj Beach with the world-famous hotel, Burj Al Arab in the background. In addition to that, the beach offers a surfing and a swimming area (conveniently separate from each other), as well as plenty of other facilities including the ones at the nearby Jumeirah Beach Hotel. Beach glamour all the way!
4. Umm Suqeim Beach (Off Umm Suqeim Road, Near Umm Suqeim 2 and 3)
While JBR, Kite Beach and Burj Beach mostly attract tourists, singletons and young couples, Umm Suqeim is super family friendly. It’s also a lot less crowded, which works better for introverts. At the same time, the Umm Suqeim Beach still has you covered with enough restaurants (check out Bu Qtair – it’s not much to look at, but the food is scrumptious), ice-cream shops, showers and other facilities. It’s just good-old-fashioned beach fun. Browse villa rentals near Umm Suqeim Beach.
5. BLACK PALACE BEACH (near al sufouh and Al Sufouh 1)
While the full name is Black Palace Beach, most people don’t pronounce the ‘black’ part when referring to it. It’s because there’s nothing dark or morbid about this beach spot at all. It’s the picture of loveliness – a quiet beach where you can be (almost) alone with your spouse in a perfectly calm environment and chat away. The only downside of Palace Beach – there are no facilities or restaurants around so don’t forget your parasol and your picnic basket! Rent out a villa near Black Palace Beach.
6. AL MAMZAR BEACH PARK (al Mamzar AREA, OFF al KHALEEJ road)
The Al Mamzar Beach Park is probably the beach you’ll hear mentioned the least, but that doesn’t make it any less special. Part beach, part park – it’s the perfect spot for getting away from the hustle and bustle of Dubai, having a relaxing swim in the sea or lighting up a barbecue. The advantage of Al Mamzar is you can rent a chalet/beach cabin for just AED200 and have some ‘me time’, while your kids play on the nearby volleyball, football or basketball courts.
The Best Beach Clubs
Dubai is full of first-class beach clubs and resorts– that’s what makes it DUBAI – the lure of beach lovers worldwide. Since there are too many beach clubs to choose from, let’s focus on the few of the most popular ones in different parts of the city.
1. BLUE MARLIN – (Golden Tulip Al Jazira Hotels and Resort, off Sheikh Zayed Road, Exit 399)
Yes, this beach club is practically in Abu Dhabi, but it’s also as close to raucous Ibiza-style partying Dubai will ever get. So if you love a good dance, a good drink, and you don’t mind arriving early (it’s always PACKED), Blue Marlin is the place for you. You can come in your swim shorts/bikini, have lunch in your fabulous beach bed, then stay for the DJ party. Most recently, one of Canada’s top DJs, Richie Hawtin played there.
2. JA Jebel Ali Golf Resort (Sheik Zayed road, exit number 13, Jebel Ali Free Zone)
JA Jebel Ali Golf Resort is unquestionably the finest beach resort on the Jebel Ali side of town. The hotel has too many facilities to name, although we suppose we can try listing a few – 9 hole golf course, mini golf court, aqua gym, shooting club, tennis & squash courts, horse riding, spa & wellness centre, a kids club (CoolZone), a teenagers club (ChillZone), and much more. What makes JA Jebel Ali Golf Resort a little extra special is all the beautiful peacocks you’ll see strutting around.
3. MINA SEYAHI beach resort – (The Westin Dubai marina )
Sumptuous food, wonderfully trained staff, various sports facilities and multiple pools – that’s what Mina Seyahi is all about. There’s even an extended winding pool ending in a fabulous bar. And before you ask, yes, Mina Seyahi’s good for bringing in your little ones too with many shallow pools, kid’s play areas, and a kids menu. Once more, it’s based in Dubai Marina – between JA Resorts and the very last beach club on our list.
4. NIKKI BEACH restaurant & beach club (off JUMEIRAH BEACH ROAD, PALM JUMEIRAH)
While it might not be as spacious as Mina Seyahi, Nikki Beach sure is as luxurious – ‘all white décor, tribal influences and stylish ambience’, as they put it. The fabulous beach club is also packed with events – Sunday brunches, ladies Tuesdays, White Party, and beyond. But what you need to see the most is the gorgeous, crystal-clear circle pool in the heart of it. Like a David Hockney painting come to life.
