The 27 sq. km Saadiyat Island has long been in the public consciousness thanks to its fantastic art scene, but recently its been the residential facet of the area that’s been attracting attention. This is why we’re taking you through the different pros, cons, benefits and things to consider if you’re thinking of renting on Saadiyat Island.
Benefits of living on Saadiyat Island
The Prestige Factor
Undoubtedly one of the best things about living on Saadiyat Island is the fact that the neighbourhood is known for exciting and upmarket reasons such as The Louvre Abu Dhabi, the opulent St. Regis Saadiyat Island and the world-class Abu Dhabi Art fair to name a few. To live on Saadiyat Island means living at an address that needs absolutely no introduction!
Apartments or Villas? The Choice is Yours!
For those who are craving an upmarket island lifestyle but may not necessarily need (or want) the space and upkeep of a villa, Saadiyat Island has a selection of apartments that are sure to fit the bill! The buildings housing flats on Saadiyat Island are all low-rise, so you’re still able to enjoy suburban living without the bustle of being in a district of skyscrapers. But if you’re interested in a larger property, the Saadiyat Island villas are sure to check all the boxes!
One might think that a prestigious location such as Saadiyat might turn its nose up at our furry family members, but that couldn’t be further from the truth! You are more than welcome to bring your pets along with you when you move, while there are several pedestrian-friendly walkways where you can take them out for a run. Several villas also come with large gardens, so your pets can run free!
There’s Something for Everyone
If you’re an art lover, we strongly recommend shelling out the AED 473 for an Art Club Membership at The Louvre Abu Dhabi, granting you (and a guest) unlimited access all year to the world famous museum. Or if you’re more of a casual aficionado, sign up for news alerts courtesy of the New York University Abu Dhabi and Manarat Al Saadiyat. If golf is more your thing, however, you’ll be well taken care of courtesy the Saadiyat Beach Golf Club, designed by Gary Player. The residences also come with access to community pools, gyms, recreational spaces, landscaped gardens, children’s play areas and more…so you’re guaranteed to always have something to do!
It’s Easy to Get to
Despite the ‘island’ connotations, Saadiyat is only 500m off the coast of Abu Dhabi, ten minutes away from the corniche and all the amenities and lifestyle options available on Yas Island. It’s also easy to get to the airport from the island – perfect because you’re likely to have a bunch of visitors who want to come and stay! It’s also minutes away from Yas Island, for those who are looking for even more recreational activities and a shopping mall.
It’s the best of beachfront lifestyle
Even if you’re not lucky enough to nab one of the beachfront villas on Saadiyat Island, it doesn’t mean that you’re far from frolicking in the surf! No matter where you rent in the neighbourhood, you will be merely a stone’s throw from the gorgeous Saadiyat Beach. It’s perfect to catch some sun, enjoy some watersports or hit a relaxed café. For a more five star experience, the Monte Carlo and Saadiyat beach clubs have you covered…life on Saadiyat Island truly is head and shoulders above the rest!
It Has Everything You Need
From supermarkets to respected schools, cafes, gyms, spas, salons, supermarket, pharmacy, wellness centre…one of the advantages of renting on Saadiyat Island is that whatever convenience you’re looking for, you’ll find it within easy reach.
Things to Consider before renting on Saadiyat Island
There are No Hospitals On Saadiyat Island
If you prefer to be safe rather than sorry, Saadiyat Island may not rank quite as high on your list of places to move to. While the neighbourhood does have it’s own pharmacy, there are currently no clinics or hospitals on site. But, once again, if you do need them, hospitals such as Cleveland Clinic and others are only 20 minutes away.
It doesn’t have too many educational options – yet
Saadiyat Island is home to three wonderful and well respected educational institutions – The Redwood Nursery, Cranleigh School and the New York University’s Abu Dhabi outpost. While these three will cover your children from nursery through to a degree, it doesn’t leave much by way of choice, if you want to keep close to your villa or apartment on Saadiyat Island, especially with little ones. However, there are a number of nurseries as well as primary and secondary schooling options on the mainland – just a 20-minute car ride away.
There Is Still ongoing Construction
A lot of the residential parts of Saadiyat Island have been finished – landscaping included, however, there is still a lot of construction of new developments that are taking place, resulting in temporary road closures that may become something of an inconvenience. But, the bulk of these projects are scheduled for completion and handover in the coming years, significantly reducing this particular downside.
Expect To Pay More Than you Would elsewhere…For Now
Given its upmarket location and fantastic, resort-style amenities it’s unsurprising that one of the cons of renting on Saadiyat Island is that it commands some of the highest rents in Abu Dhabi. However, since there are several off-plan projects that are due to come to fruition in the coming months and years, the influx of these properties onto the secondary market is sure to not only reduce asking rents but stabilise them as well.
