Explained – Dubai School Fee Increase 2023-24
It has been announced that some schools in Dubai will be allowed to increase their tuition fees during the 2023 and 2024 academic year. The hike will be allowed for some private schools based on their performance in recent school inspections. Here is all you need to know about the school fees increase in Dubai.
UAE announces private school fees hike
The tuition fees in the schools in Dubai have remained unchanged for the past three years. This will now change during the recent and next academic year for certain academic institutions. Schools with a high-performance rating will be allowed an annual increase in tuition fee in Dubai by up to six percent. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) cites the current economic situation and operation costs as the reason for the boost.
According to the regulatory authority:
The approved fee increase takes into account the economic situation of the emirate as well as the operational costs of running a private school while maintaining the quality of education…The rate by which schools can increase their fees is tied to each school’s most recent inspection rating from the Dubai Schools Inspection Bureau.
The increase will depend on whether the schools can maintain their ratings during the said school year. These are Weak, Acceptable, Good, Very Good and Outstanding. Here is a rundown of how the allowance will work out:
- Maintain rating: Up to 3%
- Improve rating from Very Good to Outstanding: Up to 4.5%
- From Good to Very Good: Up to 5.25%
- From Acceptable to Good or from Weak to Acceptable: Up to 6%
Over 199 schools were inspected by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority recently. Of them, 25 had improved their respective performances. Additionally, 20 schools in Dubai were rated Outstanding.
