Mohammed Bin Khalid Al Nahyan (MBK) School, previously known as Mohammed Bin Khalid Generation School, is a small US curriculum school in Al Ain. This educational institute started operations under the patronage of Her Highness Dr Shamma Bint Mohammed Bin Khaled Al Nahyan in 2000. Initially started as a villa-based school following the MOE curriculum, MBK School adopted the US curriculum in the academic year 2014-2015.

Today, it is known as an international school with teachers and students from all over the world. The school aims to offer a unique educational experience to students based on 21st-century skills. It further encourages students to respect the values, promote the concept of patriotism and citizenship. It is a co-educational school catering to the educational needs of students from kindergarten to Grade 8. COVID-19 Protocols

The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge collaborated with schools, parents and the wider community to come up with COVID-19 protocols ensuring safe re-opening of schools. All the schools in Al Ain, including MBK School, follow these guidelines to offer a safe learning environment.

MBK School re-opened for the academic year 2020-2021 following the below-mentioned learning models:

  • Full-day learning model for students in KG1 to Grade 2
  • Hybrid learning model for students in Grade 3 to Grade 8 with alternative week patterns
  • Distance learning model for students in any grade unable to physically attend the school

The COVID-19 protocols adopted by MBK School are as follows:

  • The school will place a maximum of 15 students in a group. Students have to maintain a distance of at least 1.5 metres.
  • The school sanitises the building and its facilities with disinfectants.
  • Check the temperature of students and staff entering the school premises.
  • A negative COVID-19 PCR test result is mandatory for staff and students above 12 years old.
  • It is mandatory for staff and students above six years old to wear a mask at all times. Carry extra facemasks in case of emergency.
  • The school installed sterilisation stations throughout the campus. Students are encouraged to use them.
  • The school prepared an isolation room with the necessary equipment for those who show COVID-19 like symptoms. Students will be returned to their home.
  • The school restricted some of its activities, such as extra-curricular activities, celebrations and field trips, which usually results in large gatherings.

Distance Learning

This school started the distance-learning programme at the start of 2020. The programme is still in place and assisting students in continuing their education at home. At the beginning of the academic year 2020-2021, the school decided to implement the distance-learning programme for students on alternative days or those unable to attend the school.

Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) is a governmental body that regulates the education sector of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra. It was founded in 2005 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Through the Irtiqaa programme, ADEK inspects the performance of schools every 18 to 24 months and issues a comprehensive report based on its performance. Academic Calendar for MBK School

Like most US curriculum schools in the UAE, the academic year of MBK School has three terms. The academic year starts in the last week of August and ends in the last week of June. The important dates for each term are as follows:

  • The first term starts on August 30 and ends on December 10. This is followed by a three-week winter break.
  • Right after the winter break, classes resume for the second term on January 3. The term ends on March 25. It is followed by a three-week spring holiday.
  • The third term begins on April 18 and ends on June 30.

How to Apply to Mohammed Bin Khalid Al Nahyan (MBK) School?

MBK School is an inclusive school as it welcomes students from all backgrounds. The school aims to offer a holistic educational environment for its students. It follows the applicable laws and regulations of the UAE and the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

To apply, submit the school registration form with authentic information. In case of false information, the school reserves the right to cancel the admission application. Submit the form along with the following documents:

  • A copy of birth certificate attested by the Foreign Affairs and UAE Embassy in the originating country
  •  Vaccination card of the candidate
  • A copy of the candidate’s passport
  • A copy of the candidate guardian’s passport (with valid residential status for expats)
  • Six recent passport-size photographs
  • An official stamped copy of the previous transcripts (if applicable)
  • Transfer certificate (in English or Arabic)
  • Parents School partnership agreement
  • Records for Special Education Needs (if applicable)
  • KG information form (if applying for KG1 or KG2)
  • A good conduct certificate from the previous school

In the case of no vacancy, the school will place the name of the student on a waiting list. Once a vacancy arrives, the school will contact the parents in order of listing for an interview or a placement test.

Those performing well in the interview or placement test will be granted admission. The school usually informs the parents regarding the status of admission after three working days. Those living far from the school don’t need to worry as Mohammed Bin Khalid Al Nahyan School (MBK) offers a reliable and comfortable transport service to students. The school has a large fleet of buses that are equipped with modern safety features. The school charges AED 2,500 for all grades.
