COVID-19 PROTOCOLS AT GEMS WELLINGTON ACADEMY AL KHAIL
Keeping student and staff safety in mind, GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail has planned a staggered start for the new academic year. It might be inconvenient for some families, but strict measures have been put in place to ensure the safety and well-being of students.
The school has designated entry points for each section. Each entry point has thermal scanners to check temperatures and those who will have a high body temperature won’t be allowed to enter the school. Parents are not allowed to enter the school building unless authorised.
Foundation Stage students will enter the building via the FS entrance and reach their classroom through a one-way system. Parents are not allowed to visit classrooms or other learning spaces. Students of Year 5 to Year 13 should be dropped at the school gates.
- Students over six years of age must wear face masks or face shields.
- Social Distancing markers are placed on the floor and students should follow the distancing rules
- Hand sanitisers and dispensers are placed throughout the school building to be used by the staff and students
- Disinfection and sanitisation will take place on an hourly basis. The whole school is disinfected at the end of the school day
- Signage and posters are placed around the school for reminding students and staff about social distancing and hand washing
- All classroom equipment and tools are sanitised after every use
- Hand washing breaks are planned for students
- Prayer rooms are closed for the time being
- Large gathering and meetings are not allowed
- If a student shows COVID-19 symptoms, he/she is immediately sent to a special isolation room and attended by medical staff in complete PPE clothing. Parents are informed immediately. The school will contact DHA if the parents don’t reach the school within 30 minutes.

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum is taught in the Foundation Stage.

DISTANCE LEARNING AT GEMS WELLINGTON ACADEMY AL KHAIL
Remote learning option is available for students. It has to be discussed with the principal of each phase and approved by the CEO and Principal of the academy.
Remote learning is conducted through synchronised lessons through live-streaming from the classroom. Lesson videos are also uploaded. Assessment and feedback are also crucial during remote learning.
Students should decide between remote learning and on-site learning. They cannot opt for both.
Responsible to ensure the growth and quality of education, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) is a government organization in the emirate of Dubai. For this purpose, KHDA visits schools in Dubai every year and prepares a detailed report on their performances. Lunch Options at GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail
There is a large canteen with a wide range of nutritious and balanced snacks and lunch options. The school meals are managed by Slices which is a renowned company specializing in providing healthy meals in schools. Slices have an account in the GEMS Connect app that parents can download. Parents may purchase a prepaid card so children can make cashless purchases at the canteen.
Healthy packed lunches from home are also encouraged at the school. However, the school prohibits students from bringing anything containing nuts and chocolates to campus.
Following the CoVid-19 protocols, students can only get packed lunches they order via Slices. Primary section students get their packed lunches in their classrooms. Secondary students are allowed to pick up their lunches from the canteen and eat it in the designated places as long as they maintain the required social distance.
Water dispensers are unavailable; hence, students should bring their water bottles. Water can be purchased through lunch orders with Slices.

After-school care at GEMS Al Khail is free. The age requirement for the programme is at least three years. Regulated and approved by KHDA, the program is conducted by British Early Years trained teachers.

These involve messy play, music and movement, yoga, creative time and more. Students in Foundation 1 can enjoy the after-school program from Sunday to Wednesday from 12:30 pm – 2:40 pm.
