Future International Nursery Curriculum

Future International Nursery Sharjah, like its Dubai Branch, follows the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) framework for its bilingual programme. The nursery understands that each child has an innate curiosity to explore and learn about the world around them.

Children show more interest in learning as they wonder and explore things around them. Teachers at FIN Sharjah and Dubai play an important role in nurturing curiosity and offering learning opportunities.

FIN's approach revolves around the fun and playful nature of the IEYC education framework. Activities are carefully chosen to develop curiosity, problem-solving skills, verbal and non-verbal skills and understanding of the world.

IEYC is a new research-based curriculum developed in 2016 and is slightly different from the popular EYFS curriculum. IEYC uses the best international practices and play-based approaches to offer a holistic education experience to children aged two to five.

Several reasons make IEYC a better educational framework for children. Since the curriculum does not require formal pre-qualification as most activities are play-based. Moreover, it is a flexible curriculum that can work with the national curriculum to promote easy transition in the primary stage. Furthermore, IEYC focuses on children’s learning and development by measuring outcomes. Assessments are carried out through observations and interactions with teachers.

The IEYC approach is based on the following guiding principles:

  • Children should be supported to learn and develop at their own pace.
  • Early Years of life are essential in their own right.
  • Learning happens when teachers use developmental and child-initiated learning experiences to support children’s innate curiosity in an enabling environment.
  • Knowledge and skill development results in an increased sense of understanding if children are allowed to express themselves in multiple ways.
  • Ongoing assessments consisting of evaluation and reflection are effective if it involves learning link with the home.
  • Learning should be fun, engaging and motivating.
  • Play is a crucial component of children’s learning and development.

The pedagogical approach used at Future International Learning is based on research in language acquisition and brain development. The nursery follows a dual-language approach that teaches English and Arabic to children. Such a programme allows Arabic and English native speakers to develop their communication and literacy skills while learning the fundamentals of a new language.
