Although the newly established Chinese School Dubai welcome applications from all nationalities, expat Chinese families looking for Chinese state-backed education for their children dominate the admissions requests.

China’s General Counsel, His Excellency Li Xuhang, considers the opening of Chinese School Dubai as a partnership between the UAE and the Chinese government to promote bilateral relations and cultural exchange. It will only encourage Chinese expats to study, work and live in Dubai.

The Hangzhou Education Bureau directly recruits CSD teachers. 56 new teachers from both Hangzhou and Dubai have joined the Chinese senior leadership team in the first Chinese school outside China.

Campus of Chinese School Dubai

CSD campus has all the state-of-the-art facilities needed for effective learning, including spacious classrooms. When operating at full capacity, the Chinese School Dubai campus can accommodate 2,000 students. However, the school opened for 200 students in September 2021.

To ensure social distancing during the pandemic, the Chinese School’s campus made excellent use of technology. All classes were split between two rooms. The first group studied with the teacher while the second group of students watched live streaming in the other room.

Chinese School Dubai is based on 58C Street in the heart of Mirdif. It is close to Al Jazeera Road and the nearest landmark is Uptown Mirdif. Chinese School Dubai is a non-profit school, while the same school in China – The Dubai China International School has been operational for 16 years as a non-profit, full-time facility catering to Kindergarten, Elementary, Junior and High School students.

The Hangzhou Education Bureau recruits the teaching faculty at Chinese School Dubai. 37 new teachers from Dubai and Hangzhou, as stated earlier, joined the senior leadership team initially. The faculty was then expanded and now has over 50 teachers.

CSD will be a K to 12 Chinese national curriculum school but right now it has classes from KG to Grade 7. A new grade will be added every year in the school.

The school’s education system is based on The Hangzhou Number 2 curriculum model. But it offers Arabic as a second language, Islamic Studies, Moral Education and UAE Social Studies as per the UAE National Curriculum guidelines.

Dubai Chinese School emphasizes Chinese full-time courses covering subjects and related standards such as English, Arabic, Sociology, Ethics and international courses.

It is expected that Chinese School Dubai will have a strong academic focus in line with the original school. The Hangzhou Number 2 curriculum model has been practised successfully for more than 100 years. It focuses on high-level learning, innovation and helping students develop an international vision.

KHDA Rating

KHDA inspected Chinese School Dubai for the first time from 20th to 24th March in 2023 and rated it "Good." 

According to the initial report, students show very good attainment and progress in English and Mathematics. In Science, their attainment and progress is good. Both primary and middle school students show very good learning skills.

KHDA report mentions that the curriculum implementation and design is good while its adaptation is very good. The primary section of the school receives very good teaching that results in effective learning.

Health and safety such as arrangement for child protection is very good but the care and support for students is acceptable, which means it can be improved to get better rating.

The KHDA reports mentioned the effectiveness of leadership and its self-evaluation and improvement plan to be good.

Overall, students show very good personal development and social skills. However, their understanding of Islamic values and awareness of Emirati and other cultures is good and could be improved.

Academic Calendar for Chinese School Dubai

The first term at CSD begins in late August and ends in December followed by a three-week winter break. The second term starts in January and ends in March. Students then go on spring week. Classes resume for the third term in April. The academic year ends in late June.

Admission and Fees

How to apply to Chinese School Dubai?

Interested parents can fill the online application form available on the school’s official website. Form submission is followed by paying an application fee, which is AED 525 inclusive of 5% VAT.

After submitting the form and application fee successfully, parents will be notified about the learning ability test arrangements made for the student. If the student passes the test, parents need to pay the tuition fee and send mandatory documents to complete the registration process.

Documents mentioned below must be submitted at the time of admission:

  • Copy of student’s passport, visa and Emirates ID
  • Copy of parents’ passport, visa and Emirates ID
  • One passport size photograph of student (electronic version)
  • Birth certificate (must be in English or Chinese)
  • Immunisation record and health declaration form
  • Last two years transcript or study report (must be in English)
  • Student’s transfer certificate (original Chinese student must provide the UAE certified double transfer certificate. Former UAE attending students must provide the original transfer certificate issued by the school.
