Despite what many people believe, Bayut.com is not just here to connect you with the right property. We’re here to help you make a home for yourself in the UAE. A home for some is proximity to the most excellent schools, smart home technology or growing a garden on your balcony. Whatever the topic is, our team is working hard to research it for you. This Sunday, we bring you decor & design tips for a room shared by your older child & toddler.
bright colours only
Let’s start with an elementary interior design tip. Light and bright walls reflect daylight, while dark coloured walls absorb most of it making the room appear smaller. Make sure your walls and furniture are as light as can be and have your child and toddler living in a positive, light-filled space. If you really must use a few dark or bold colours, make sure to have them below eye level or introduce them in the space with accent pillows, lamps, stuff toys, or bedding.
Hidden & vertical storage
Pushing all the furniture close together is an excellent start.
But what you really need to do is procure several plastic storage boxes and place them underneath your toddler’s crib. This easy-to-reach hidden place is perfect for storing all of your baby’s supplies.
Also, think vertically. The higher your cupboards and storage and toy shelves are, the more walking space you and your children will have. However, do make sure to secure them. With a toddler in the room, he/she is sure to try and climb up anything they can.
A pull out sofa
We know, a pull out sofa is not exactly the most glamorous piece of furniture in the world. However, if your apartment is on the small side, it is almost a necessity. A medium-size pullout sofa will save you plenty of space, yet still be just as comfortable as a regular children’s bed. Just look all the space in the picture above. If your child is under 7, you’ll have to make the bed every night for them for a good few years. But that’s a small price to pay, isn’t it?
A crib on rollers
This nursery decor tip will actually come particularly handy for parents of a slightly older child.
Say your 9-year-old has to study for his maths exam and your little one is crying because of stomach problems.
With rollers, you can easily move the crib to your bedroom and keep an eye on your baby while your older child gets some me time.
A touch of magic
Lastly, build a cosy little play tent for reading books or purchase some glow-in-the-dark stars to make the ceiling and walls light up like the night sky. If the room is cosy and magical, your little ones won’t get uncomfortable sharing. On the contrary, it should bring them closer together.
And that concludes our decor & design tips for combining your nursery with kid’s room interior. To sum up, your primary goals are to get the most of the space while still making the room cosy for the children. Looking for more decor & design tips?
