COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

The school staff has to undergo Covid-19 tests to ensure the safety of all students, staff and parents. Students can also choose to opt for e-learning until December 31st, 2020. Victoria International School has opened with only 25% of students capacity.

Before entering the school bus and the school premises, the temperature check is mandatory. Wearing of a mask is compulsory for everyone who is present at the school. The school capacity is reduced to ensure social distancing.

Senior School

Senior School encompasses Grades 10, 11 and 12. Grade 10 is pre-IB, whereas, for Grades 11 and 12, students take up subjects and courses based on the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP). The IBDP is an internationally recognised curriculum that prepares senior students for college and future careers.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program lasts for two years and teaches 6 courses at the higher and standard level. The courses cover multiple disciplines including languages, social studies, experimental sciences and mathematics. Additional requirements and courses under the IBDP are:

  • Extended Essay: A requirement wherein students have to undertake independent research and in-depth study of any matter related to one of the subjects they are taking. 
  • Theory of Knowledge: A course that encourages students to reflect on the nature of knowledge by critically examining perception, emotion, language and reason. Students examine different kinds of knowledge such as scientific, artistic, mathematical and historical. 
  • Creativity, Action and Service: A course that requires students to learn through experience. Students can combine all three components or do activities related to each one of them separately.

If a student does not wish to learn the entire diploma course, they can opt for the certificate courses to gain IB certificates for individual subjects that they choose to study.

The academic year at Victoria International School of Sharjah is split into three terms. They take place as follows:

Admission and Fees

How to Apply to Victoria International School of Sharjah

Victoria School Sharjah is offering online application facilities for students. The admission process at VISS is fairly simple. The school welcomes new admissions from ELC (Pre-KG and KG) to Grade 11. Parents can follow these steps to enrol their students at the school: 

  • Pre-assessment 
    • A pre-assessment form can be obtained online or from the registration office/ sub-schools offices. 
    • Fill and submit the online registration form
    • The child’s assessment date and time will be relayed by the school within a few days.
  • Assessment
    • A non-refundable, non-deductible assessment fee of AED 500 should be paid. The assessment will take place only when the payment is done.
    • Be prompt for the assessment and bring the required documents. 
    • The school will contact you if your child has been accepted for enrollment.
  • Enrolment
    • Once the child successfully completes the assessment and is offered a place at the school, you will need to submit the required documents to the Registration Office on the communicated Registration Day.

  • Passport copy

  • 3 recent passport-sized photographs
  • 1 copy of the student’s passport
  • 1 copy of the unified number in the student’s UAE passport

  • Inside the UAE: 
    • Original Transfer Certificate attested by either KHDA (Dubai), ADEK (Abu Dhabi) or the Educational Zone of the Emirate they are transferring from. 
    • Latest school report/transcript from the previous school attested by Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA) and the Educational Zone Authority of the Emirate they are transferring from (KHDA, ADEK or other).
    • Registration history letter of how many years attended in the British System for students transferring from British Schools. Letter to be attested by the Educational Zone Authority of the Emirate they are transferring from (KHDA, ADEK or other).
  • Outside the UAE: 
    • Original Transfer Certificate school transcript\report to be attested from:
      • Ministry of Education (or equivalent) of the country the student is transferring from
      • Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country the student is transferring from
      • UAE Embassy of the country the student is transferring from
      • Students coming from British schools outside the UAE to submit a registration history letter showing how many years attended in the British curriculum

Lunch Options at Victoria International School of Sharjah

VISS has three cafeterias/canteens on their campus– one for Primary School, one for Middle School and one for Senior School. A third-party catering company Safratas independently operates and provides healthy lunch options for the students. The menu changes each week and can be accessed on the school’s website. 

The Primary School canteen has a pre-order meal system in place. Over-the-counter purchases are limited to drinks and healthy snacks. The Middle and Senior School canteens operate on a queuing and purchasing system where students have access to Hot Meals, sandwiches and a salad bar.

The Australian curriculum mandates that every student actively participates in sports in order to encourage physical fitness and health amongst children from a young age. After-school Care at Victoria International School of Sharjah

Most of the extracurricular activities at VISS take place after school hours. The school has also contracted an external service provider to organize after school activities for the students. They can choose to enrol in clubs and activities they are passionate about.

Medical Care at Victoria International School of Sharjah

VISS has a fully-equipped medical clinic on-campus that functions from 07:45 am to 04:15 pm every day. The school employs one doctor and two full-time nurses to tend to the medical needs of the students. The medical centre at VISS is located in Gate 5. 

As per ministry requirements, the school conducts regular health screening. Parents will be informed prior to these checkups and can contact the nurses regarding any medical concerns they might have of their child.
