School Details

Covid-19 Protocols

Keeping in mind the health and safety of students and staff members, the Ministry of Education has designed strict SOPs for schools to follow while they are open.

  • No student, teacher or staff member will join the school before testing negative for COVID-19.
  • All students and teachers must get their body temperature checked in the morning before entering the school premises.
  • Classrooms will be set up to accommodate reduced capacity. Student desks will be set at a safe distance (1 meter); classrooms will use physical markings to ensure desks remain in the correct locations.
  • Lockers are permitted as long as physical distancing measures are not compromised. Each locker must be designated to a specific student (and not shared).
  • Certain play sections/areas should be closed (i.e. dress up sections, indoor soft play areas, reading corners with soft furniture). Open spaces should include furniture and equipment that is easy to clean.
  • Students below 6 years (below Grade 1) are not required to wear masks.
  • Students of Grade 1 and above, teachers and school staff members are required to bring a minimum of two (2) masks to school each day.
  • Buses may run at full capacity but with safety measures in place.
  • Seating arrangements will be marked out in canteen areas; no students will be permitted to sit directly adjacent or next to one another. A physical distance of 2 meters should be kept in canteen areas.
  • Schools can operate a pre-selected and pre-packed lunch service, with no live cooking taking place at school.
  • School events, extra-curricular activities, after-school clubs and activities are allowed with approved protocols in place.
  • According to the protocols, schools shall resume field trips, holiday camps, and sports events.
  • Physical education will continue, including access to swimming pools.

Victoria English School Curriculum

Victoria English School implements the National Curriculum of England and Wales. The globally recognised curriculum offers a comprehensive learning experience that develops international mindedness and personal development.

EYFS Curriculum

For Foundation Stage 1 and 2, the curriculum focuses on providing students with the skills required for effective learning. The EYFS curriculum is divided into three key areas of learning:

  • Playing and Exploring: Concerned with hands-on learning experiences, the curriculum provides students with material for building concepts and test ideas.
  • Active Learning: Children are motivated to pursue activities they find interesting and are pushed not to give up even in the face of challenges.
  • Creative and Critical Thinking: Students are encouraged to be innovative and develop their ideas.

Additionally, the curriculum focuses on supporting and strengthening the three prime areas of learning, which are:

  • Mathematics: Students develop their understanding of numbers, shapes and measurements through problem-solving and practice. They learn the concept of double, half and share numbers.
  • Understanding the world: Through experiments, children learn about people, plants, objects, tools and the environment.
  • Expressive arts and design: Children explore their creativity through arts, music, movement, dance, imaginative and role-play activities, mathematics and design and technology.

Primary Curriculum

For Key Stage 1 (Years 1 to 2) and Key Stage 2 (Years 3 to 6), students follow the National Curriculum of England and Wales. The curriculum emphasises on:

Secondary Curriculum

At the secondary school and Sixth Form level, VES prepares students for the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE), International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), A-Levels and AS-Level Examinations.

Arabic, Islamic Studies, and UAE Social Studies subjects are also mandatory as per the regulations set forth by the Ministry of Education (MoE).

Distance Learning at Victoria English School

In coordination with Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA), the Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management team in Sharjah has allowed all private schools in the emirate to resume 100% in-class learning from October 31, 2021. However, sick students can get an exemption; they must submit a relevant health certificate to continue with remote education.

Academic Calendar for Victoria English School

The academic calendar at Victoria English School starts in the last week of August and ends in the last week of June.

  • The first term starts in the last week of August and ends in the second week of December. Students go on a winter break that begins in the third week of December and ends in the last week of December.
  • The second term starts in the first week of January and ends in the fourth week of March. There are two options for spring breaks. The first option is from the last week of March to the second week of April and the second option is from the last week of March to the first week of April.
  • The third term starts right after the spring break and ends in the last week of June.

Facilities

School Transportation at VES Sharjah

Victoria English School places the utmost importance on the safety of its students within and beyond the classroom. This extends to their safe arrival and departure to and from school. VES operates its own transportation for students.

Annual Transportation charges are as follows:

  • Sharjah: AED 4,500
  • Dubai: AED 5,000

Sports Facilities

Physical fitness is an integral part of the VES education model. Students participate in various athletic activities and competitions throughout the year. Inter-house and inter-school competitions are part of the VES programme. The school provides students with the necessary facilities to practice and train. Some of these include:

Extra-curricular Activities at Victoria School

Victoria English School has a house system in place. Students are grouped into one of the four houses– London, Belfast, Edinburgh or Cardiff. Throughout the academic year, students participate in various inter-house activities and competitions such as:

Through these events, students gather VES merit points for their respective houses. The house with the most merit points will be awarded the house shield at the end of the academic year. This system encourages students to participate in scholastic and co-scholastic activities while encouraging teamwork and leadership.

VES students can participate in The Duke of Edinburgh International Award programme. The International Award welcomes students between the ages of 14 and 25 and challenges building their confidence, engaging with their communities, and acquiring life skills. Participants undertake an adventurous journey to win the award where they exhibit planning, execution and leadership skills in an unfamiliar and challenging environment.

Field Trips from Victoria English School

Victoria English School regularly organises field trips. Students visit cultural and historical places of the UAE. They also visit parks, zoos and museums to take learning beyond the classroom.
