Overview

Summit International School (SIS) was established in 2013 in Abu Dhabi. Delivering a North American Curriculum, Summit offers classes from Kindergarten to Grade 9.

Summit International is a coeducational school. It is home to over 1000 students and fosters a welcoming environment where students feel safe, healthy and cared for.

Summit International School plans on expanding in the near future with more classes and more space. The school is set to inaugurate a new, state-of-the-art campus in the coming years. Summit School is also seeking accreditation from various global accreditation bodies, making the it a promising institution for high quality education.

School Details

COVID-19 Protocols

ADEK has worked extensively with schools, parents councils, staff members and policymakers to design effective safety measures to implement once schools reopen for the 2021 – 2022 academic session. Here’s a summary of SOPs to give you a better understanding.

  • Those entering the school premises must wear a face mask. KG students are exempted. Students and staff who cannot wear masks due to medical conditions must provide a supportive medical certificate.
  • Daily temperature and symptoms screening is recommended before leaving the house. Individuals who exhibit symptoms or feel unwell must stay at home. They must see a doctor for assessment and possible COVID-19 testing if required.
  • Individuals aged 16 and above who have completed 28 days following the second dose with a UAE-approved vaccine are authorised to enter the school premises upon presenting their vaccination status on the ALHOSN app.
  • Children below 16 are authorised to enter the school premises without vaccination.
  • The school shall implement physical distancing of 1 to 2 metres between all individuals.
  • Schools may follow three operating models: A full school day, attending on a rotational basis or blended learning model.
  • Schools are authorised to reopen all athletic facilities for use during physical education (PE), extracurricular activities, and for private use by staff outside of regular school hours.
  • Schools shall reinstate PE (including swimming) classes and all sports activities, provided they are implemented with the relevant risk mitigation controls in place.
  • Whether organised by the school or by an external provider, extracurricular activities shall be permitted for students enrolled in the school only.
  • Events within the school consisting of large assemblies mixing different student groups are not permitted.
  • School trips and inter-school events shall be resumed.
  • Cooking on the school premises is authorised and schools are recommended to reopen canteens if they were previously closed. However, food must be served by a designated staff member to avoid sharing serving utensils.
  • Prayer rooms may be reopened.
  • Schools are recommended to reopen libraries if they were previously closed.
  • Bus capacity has been increased from 50% to between 59% and 66%.

Summit International School delivers the North American K-9 curriculum.

Kindergarten Curriculum

The KG syllabus teaches children a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds. The curriculum paves the way for music, P.E and artwork. Students develop necessary skills such as reading, writing, listening and speaking at this level.

Primary Curriculum

From Grades 1 to 4, the curriculum focuses on the development of skills through the subjects. Subjects are categorised into core subjects and secondary subjects.

Distance Learning at Summit International School

As per the instructions of The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA), all schools across the UAE will discontinue distance learning from January 2022.

ADEK Rating

The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) is a government entity for licensing all private education institutes and monitoring their service quality in accordance with regulations.

International evaluators use a scale comprising six quality levels, as shown below:

Summit International School has been rated Good by ADEK for its overall effectiveness in the inspection conducted in 2018-2019. Summit School improved from its previous ADEK rating of ‘Acceptable‘.

Academic Calendar for Summit International School

An academic year at SIS Abu Dhabi is split into three terms and takes place as follows:

  • The first term commences in the last week of August and ends in the second week of December, followed by winter breaks of 3 weeks.
  • The second term begins in the first week of January and concludes in the last week of March for a 2-week spring holiday.
  • The third term starts in the second week of April and ends in the first week of July. Student then go on a 2-month summer vacation before the next academic session starts.

Admission and Fees

How to Apply to Summit International School?

Summit International School admissions are open from Kindergarten to Grade 9. Parents are encouraged to take school to ensure that SIS is the best fit for their child.

The enrolment procedure is as follows:

  • During the school tour, a representative will answer queries parents may have regarding fee structure, policy, age requirements etc. Parents will also receive school brochure and other necessary information. 
  • Once the tour is complete, parents are required to fill and submit the admission form. If there is a place available on the waitlist, the school’s admission team will contact the parents and schedule an assessment/interview.
  • If the student passes the assessment/interview, the admissions team will send across an official offer letter to the parents. Upon submission, the following documents and its photocopies must be submitted:

    • 3 photos (Student)
    • A copy of Passport (student)
    • A copy of residence visa(Student)
    • Birth Certificate
    • Immunization card

  • The enrolment is subject to approval from the Ministry of Education. Student’s admission is successful if the TC submitted to the admission office is approved and the student meets the age requirement for the pertaining grade.

Lunch Options at SIS

Summit International School has a canteen that provides healthy and nutritious snacks and drinks.

School Transportation at SIS

Summit International School provides a safe and reliable transportation service for students. SIS students can avail the service for AED 5,000 per year. The rates are standard for every grade level. The transportation fees cannot be paid in instalments and should be paid in full prior to the commencement of the academic year.

Sports Facilities

SIS encourages fitness among students. It organises a variety of games and sports activities to promote health, fitness and sportsmanship. Athletically inclined students can make use of these sports facilities:

  • A shaded outdoor play area for students to play in during breaks and designated P.E periods
  • A regulation football pitch
  • A gymnasium that houses courts for volleyball, basketball and handball

Extra-curricular Activities at Summit School

Summit offers a range of co-curricular activities and encourages students’ active participation. Some extracurricular activities and events include the likes of:

To sign up for these activities, students must fill and submit the co-curricular activities registration form to their respective homeroom teachers. ECAs are scheduled weekly, on Thursdays.

Field Trips from SIS

To equip students with the necessary skills and abilities that extend beyond textbook learning, SIS regularly conducts educational outings. The teaching staff organises these trips aimed at developing students’ social and cultural knowledge.

Students visit various events in Abu Dhabi and other Emirates, such as festivals, exhibitions, fairs and museums.

Medical Care at Summit International School

SIS has a medical clinic that provides emergency treatment for students. The school maintains students’ medical records and ensures that appropriate health services are administered and documented.

The school also assists in giving immunisations and carries out physical exams to identify students’ health care needs.

Mode of Communication between Teachers and Parents

Summit International School has a Summit Parent Advisory Committee (SPAC) to establish strong links between home and school. Through SPAC, the school holds regular meetings with the management, parents and teaching staff. These meetings provide a forum for parents to discuss relevant issues, come up with solutions and organise activities throughout the academic year.
