Overview

In September 2018,  South View School (SVS) was established in Remraam, a peaceful gated community in Dubailand. Owned by Interstar Education, SVS, Dubai is the fifth project of Interstar Advisory Services DMCC (IAS)– an organisation that already owns Victory Heights Primary School (VHPS), Wonder Years Nursery, Delhi Private School Dubai and Delhi Private School Sharjah.

The school follows the British curriculum from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) until Year 12. Students from Victory Heights Primary School have the option to transfer to South View School, Dubai to pursue their secondary education.

Association with Interstar ensures a steady influx of students into South View School, which can educate around 1,000 students at a time. However, the school has capped the class strength at 25 students.

Like other international schools in the emirate, South View students belong to over 60 different nationalities. This allows students to get familiar with different cultures while understanding the unique elements of the UAE, i.e. the Emirati culture.

The school curriculum is inquiry-based and student-led. South View School, Dubailand aims to make it to the top of the list of British schools in Dubai. The school went under its first inspection by the KHDA for the academic year 2021-2022.

Campus of South View School

The purpose-built 4-acre South View School campus has various facilities and amenities to assist primary kids who are at a crucial learning and developmental stage. Campus facilities for secondary students are equally impressive.

The Foundation Stage is separate from primary and secondary sections. It is located on the ground floor of the building and has premium indoor and outdoor facilities dedicated to little ones. You will find a play area, playground, multi-purpose hall and a separate toddler’s pool for the FS section. There are interventions and withdrawal rooms as well, where children can practise their classroom learnings.

Besides these, there are bright, colourful classrooms equipped with interactive whiteboards and a range of digital and technological resources to stimulate young minds. Similarly, all classrooms have a restroom. What’s interesting is that these classrooms open into the central indoor activity area and have direct access to the outdoor play area. This means FS children can connect with natural resources and create a connection between what they have learned and the real world.

The primary section is located on both the ground and first floor. On the ground floor, you will find the Arabic, Islamic and Inclusion Departments besides classrooms for Years 1 to 4. The first floor has classrooms for Year 5 and Year 6 along with all the premium, specialist facilities.

The entire primary section has access to a communal indoor activity area that can be used for a wide range of activities including small group teaching sessions, student-led works and project-based activities. Students can access the play area in the break time.

Specialist facilities include a music room, an art studio, a library and a STEM suite consisting of a science lab and computer lab. There are separate toilets for males and females just a few steps away from the indoor play area.

Apart from the Foundation Stage and primary school facilities, you will find top-notch sports facilities for secondary students. These include a full-size football field, a 25-metre swimming pool, a trainer’s pool for primary students, three multi-purpose sports halls, outdoor roof courts and three tennis courts.

South View School is based in the gated community of Remraam, Dubailand.

Why South View School?

South View School is the first British school to open in the Remraam community and is expected to be a preferred choice amongst parents seeking good British education for their child.

Facilities at the school are amazing and SVS had the honour of hosting the BSME U11 Games in 2019. Besides this, the school will soon have a senior secondary section as well that will include Year 11 and higher. This means it will become a school that offers a complete British education system until the Sixth Form for existing and prospective students.

The fact that South View School belongs to Interstar Group – a group that already has the honour of running successful schools like Victory Heights Primary School, is another reason parents would want to get their children enrolled at SVS.

If your child is studying at VHPS, look no further for a secondary school. Being a VHPS student, your child will be automatically transferred to South View School for secondary education.

Moreover, the board of governors works alongside the senior leadership team to ensure that the quality of education provided is par excellence. Similarly, both agents of the school strive to implement and achieve the mission of South View, Dubailand.

Students who don’t speak English as their first language are supported via (EAL) – English as an additional language. Extracurricular activities are conducted in English to ensure that students get the most out of their learning experience.

Finally, the inclusion department ensures that students of determination are not left behind in classroom learning because of being differently-abled. The department also works closely with children to boost their confidence and self-esteem.

South View, Remraam is mindful of students whose first language is not English. Hence, subject-specialist teachers are hired to help students achieve their highest potential.

Foundation Stage

At the Foundation Stage, SVS, Dubailand believes in the well-rounded development of students. Most activities at this level are play-based, child-led and teacher-initiated. Through these measures, a child can learn to experience and understand their emotions, emotions of others and connect their learning with real life.

SVS, Remraam focuses on seven key areas of learning during FS1. However, when children are promoted to FS2, activities like reading, writing and solving basic mathematics like addition and subtraction are of prime importance.

Subjects like Music, Arabic, ICT and PE are taught by specialist teachers.

Key Stage 1 and 2

South View School curriculum from Year 1 until Year 6 focuses on the mental, physical and emotional needs of students. While primary years see myopic teaching methods at play, secondary years are more holistic. Students are given a greater insight into subjects that they had been taught in the previous years.

Creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving are core components of Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Apart from classroom lessons, students are encouraged to take part in extracurricular activities, field trips and project-based learning to make their academic journey more challenging, yet exciting at the same time.

Students are involved in multiple assessments to ensure they achieve the benchmark set by the school to be promoted to the next academic year with flying colours.

Subjects that have specialist teachers include ICT, Art, Music, PE, Spanish/French (Years 3-6), STEM, Arabic and Islamic Studies programmes.

On the other hand, the class teacher is responsible to teach English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, Moral Education and Social Studies.

Key Stage 3 and onwards

The learning experience at a secondary level is a bit different than the other phases. Students engage in independent projects so they can implement the learnings of Key Stage 1 and 2 in their future classes. The curriculum is more student-centred and students learn to make positive contributions to the betterment of the global community.

Subjects and extracurricular activities offered at secondary stage ensure that students can pursue their interests and passion at a higher level in the coming years. Career counselling and guidance help students identify their strength and select courses that they are most likely to follow in the future.

Besides this, plans are underway to add higher secondary classes where students will be taught by subject-specific teachers to ensure the highest level of attainment.

KHDA Rating

To ensure that private schools in Dubai are contributing positively to the educational sector, the UAE government established the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). This governmental body is primarily responsible to ensure that private schools operating in Dubai follow the Ministry of Education’s approved fee structure, curriculum and admission policies.

The KHDA evaluates schools based on their leadership, curriculum, campus facilities and adherence to the inclusion framework in an academic year. The organisation then publishes an annual report and rates the overall performance of schools on a six-point scale as shown below.

Mode of Communication between Teachers and Parents

Forming a positive relationship between parents and teachers is important for the academic success of any student. This is what South View, Dubai believes in when it comes to the importance of parents’ involvement in their child’s life.

To accomplish this, the School has introduced the Parent Partnership and Parent Association programmes. Under the Parent Partnership initiative, parents can take part in workshops, parent-consultations, open classrooms and various other sessions for assisting children at home with their school work.

Additionally, the school requests parents to speak English at home for at least half an hour each day as kids are studying in an English medium school. However, SVS School values each child’s mother-tongue and recommends that parents prepare a schedule where the child can speak both the languages at home.

The second programme, Parent Association, allows parents to be a part of their child’s academic life, but more creatively. Parents can assist in classrooms, school trips and various school events or socialise with new parents as South View School ambassador.

Apart from these initiatives, SVS conducts parent-teacher meetings to discuss the strengths of students as well as areas that need improvement. Also, parents can join grade-specific WhatsApp groups to receive instant notification regarding any changes in school policies, term dates, school events and any other information.
