Rashid School for Boys (RSB) is a government school in Nad Al Sheba. It was launched in 1986 under the guidance of the late H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, former Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai.

This Dubai school follows the British National Curriculum from Foundation Stage 1 (FS1) to Year 13. The school is attended almost exclusively by UAE nationals.

Rashid School for Boys has primary and secondary sections. The school underwent major renovations during the inauguration of the Primary Section in 2003. The campus now has a dedicated Learning Resource Centre, an open-plan studio for the creative arts, a fully-stocked library, a kids’ playground, a swimming pool, a sports hall, a gym and a squash court.

School Details

Covid-19 Protocols

The Government of Dubai has developed protocols for schools to follow until the pandemic is over. This is an accumulative effort and approach to keep everyone safe and healthy, including students, teachers, parents, and relevant third parties. The KHDA has uploaded FAQs for schools on the official website for your convenience. Here’s an overview of the preventive SOPs in place.

  • Sterilising the school building, classrooms, laboratories and other facilities regularly, according to the recommendations of the National Authority for Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management.
  • Assessing the temperature of everyone who enters the school building daily.
  • Maintaining physical distance guidelines as recommended by the relevant health authorities and reducing classroom headcount capacity.
  • From this academic year, 1-metre distancing is recommended. Schools must take appropriate precautions to ensure that students and teachers stay physically distanced where possible.
  • Buses may run at full capacity provided they comply with health and safety protocols.
  • Schools shall reinstate Physical Education, swimming lessons and sports activities. Changing rooms and sports areas will be sanitised after each group of students
  • The canteen shall reopen and resume live cooking
  • School trips, excursions and holiday camps shall be resumed.
  • After-hours care, extra-curricular activities, performances, assemblies and other events at school or external venues are allowed.
  • Students older than six years, staff and visitors to schools must continue to wear face masks.
  • Vaccination is not compulsory. Unvaccinated school staff must submit a negative PCR test each week. Students are not obliged to submit negative PCR tests.
  • From October 3rd 2021, all teaching and learning at Dubai private schools will only be face-to-face. Students who wish to continue with distance learning after the stated date must provide a medical certificate issued by Dubai Health Authority.

Rashid School for Boys Curriculum

The curriculum offered at RSB is an amalgamation of the British National Curriculum infused with cross-cultural learning to instil cultural consciousness in their students.

At a Primary Level, students follow the UK Early Years Foundation Curriculum. Throughout the primary level (FS1 to Year 6), the key areas of learning are:

  2. Communication, language and literacy 
  3. Problem-solving, reasoning and numeracy 
  4. Knowledge and understanding of the world 
  5. Physical development 
  6. Creative development

The primary level curriculum is divided into core subjects, foundation subjects and Arabic curriculum subjects, taught by fully-qualified teachers.

The core subjects are:

  1. Language and Literacy
  2. Numeracy and Science

The foundation subjects include these:

  1. History
  2. Geography
  3. Art
  4. Sound Technology
  5. Physical Education

The Arabic curriculum subjects include:

  1. Arabic Language and Literacy
  2. Islam and Islamic Values 
  3. Cultural Identity as citizens of the UAE

ICT is integrated across the curriculum, with specialist ICT teachers for each grade.

During Secondary level, RSB combines Islamic and Arabic subjects made mandatory by the UAE Ministry of Education with the English & Welsh National Curriculum.

From Year 7 to Year 11, students prepare for the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) examinations and Islamic and Arabic examinations.

After Year 11, Rashid School Dubai offers students many options. These are:

  1. High School Diploma Course: Students can choose this plan for Year 12, wherein they are prepared for higher education by choosing core courses curated by the school. Topics covered in the High School Diploma Course are: 
    1. Psychology
    2. Engineering
    3. Film Making 
    4. Graphic Design
  2. A-Level/AS-Level: Students can choose one year of A-Level (Advanced Level) or two years of A and AS-Levels (Advanced Subsidiary Level) after Year 11. A-Levels and AS-Levels are subject-based qualifications associated with the General Certificate of Education (GCE). A-Levels are more advanced. AS-Level results count towards the final A-Level result.

As per the new COVID-19 protocols issued by KHDA, schools have discontinued distance learning programme from October 3, 2021. Those wishing to continue their education via distance learning have to show a relevant health certificate issued by Dubai Health Authority (DHA). Schools may revert to distance learning if COVID-19 cases are detected in a class or a group in a class.

Academic Calendar for Rashid School for Boys

The academic year at RSB is divided into three terms for primary and secondary sections.

The academic calendar for the school year is as follows:

School begins at 07:30 am and ends at 02:30 pm for the Primary section. After school club activities go on until 03:30 pm. Students are then dismissed.

How to Apply to Rashid School for Boys?

Admission at Govt. of Dubai’s Rashid School for Boys is reserved for UAE nationals. To enrol in Foundation Stage 1 (FS1), applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Student must be between 3 years 6 months and 4 years 6 months at the time of application. 
  2. The Rashid School for Boys admissions process favours applicants who have had a minimum of 6 months of nursery experience in an English or Arabic setting.

The online admissions process for Rashid School for Boys is as follows:

  1. Use a laptop or PC for the admission process. The admission system does not work on mobile. 
  2. Parents can use Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Internet Explorer to apply. 
  3. Scan the required documents. Remember that the application will not be accepted unless all documents are submitted. Necessary documents are:
    1. Applicant’s passport (first two pages)
    2. Applicant’s Emirates ID (front and back)
    3. Applicant’s birth certificate (information page)
    4. Applicant’s passport size photograph

Students eat lunch in the dining hall of the campus. Lunch timings split up by year are as follows:
