Ras Al Khaimah Academy has the honour of being one of the oldest and most prestigious international schools to operate in the UAE. The institute opened its doors in 1975 as RAK English Speaking School with just 20 children belonging to expatriate families living in the emirate.

Over the next two decades, the school steadily built its reputation and attracted students belonging to diverse backgrounds. The two campuses cover over 23 acres in total and offer top-quality premises and accommodation facilities. These include 196 classrooms, 12 science laboratories, a three-storey media centre, three libraries and two theatres.

Classrooms are equipped with proper furniture and fittings. SmartBoard technology is used to enhance the quality of lectures delivered to students. Likewise, students have access to three cafeterias and two medical facilities – one for each campus.

For physical education and sporting activities, RAK BSK Dafan Al Khor students can make the most of the gymnasium, a champion-sized swimming pool, a grass soccer field, table tennis court, and an outside covered play area.

COVID-19 Protocols

To minimise the spread of coronavirus, the government of UAE decided to reopen schools in August for the academic year 2021 – 2022 with safety guidelines. Similarly, keeping in mind the health and safety of students and staff members, the Ministry of Education has designed strict SOPs for schools to follow while they are open.

  • No student, teacher or staff member will join the school before testing negative for COVID-19. 
  • All students and teachers must get their body temperature checked in the morning before entering the school premises.
  • Classrooms will be set up to accommodate reduced capacity. Student desks will be set at a safe distance (1 meters); classrooms will use physical markings to ensure desks remain in the correct locations.
  • Lockers are permitted as long as physical distancing measures are not compromised and in such a way that each locker is designated to a specific student (alternated and not shared). 
  • Certain play sections/areas should be closed (i.e. dress up sections, indoor soft play areas, reading corners with soft furniture). Open spaces should include furniture and equipment that is easy to clean.
  • Students below 6 years (below Grade 1) are not required to wear masks. 
  •  Students of Grade 1 and above, teachers and school staff members are required to bring a minimum of two (2) masks to school each day.
  • Buses may run at full capacity but with safety measures in place. 
  • Seating arrangements will be clearly marked out in canteen areas; no students will be permitted to sit directly adjacent or next to one another. A physical distance of 2 meters should be kept in canteen areas.
  • Schools can operate a pre-selected and pre-packed lunch service, with no live cooking taking place at school. 
  • School events, extracurricular activities, after-school clubs and activities are allowed with approved protocols in place.
  • Schools shall resume field trips, holiday camps and sports events according to the approved protocols.
  • Physical education will continue, including access to swimming pools**.**

RAK Academy BSK Curriculum

Ras Al Khaimah British Curriculum Primary School follows the National Curriculum of England throughout the school. However, subjects like Arabic Studies, Islamic Education, Moral Education and Social Studies are offered based on the Ministry of Education (MOE) framework.

The foundation stage follows the Early Years Foundation Stage framework that encompasses student-initiated and teacher-led activities. Little ones are trained to develop three major skills – numeracy, literacy and writing.

In later stages, Year 1 to Year 6, the RAK Academy BSK curriculum focuses on the planned progression of lessons that allow students to acquire advanced skills in literacy, listening, speaking, and numeracy when implemented.

Recently, RAK Academy British School Khuzam was inspected by the British School Overseas (BSO). The agency found BCPS Ras Al Khaimah to have successfully overcome the early hiccups and rated them as ‘Good.’

Academic Calendar for RAK Academy British School Khuzam

Aligned with other British curriculum schools in Ras Al Khaimah, RAK Academy BSK academic calendar runs for 10 months. The calendar is divided into three terms with winter, spring and summer breaks.

The school calendar is marked with school events, national and Islamic holidays. However, dates for Islamic holidays are subject to moon sighting.

  • The first term starts in the last week of August and ends in the second week of December, followed by a 3-week winter break.
  • The second term starts in the first week of January and ends in the last week of March, followed by a 2-week spring break.

Admission and Fees

How to Apply to RAK Academy BSK?

The RAK Academy schools offer students a choice of world-class curriculums, including GCSE, IGCSE, AS and A – Level and IBDP programs. However, this campus is a British primary school that offers classes until Year 6.

The RAK Academy BSK admission process is quite easy to follow. You can start the process by first registering your child online and filling the application form. Parents must submit the form to the admissions office along with the mandatory documents listed below.

  • Applicant’s most recent academic report
  • Applicant’s medical report
  • Applicant’s photos (three)
  • Applicant’s birth certificate
  • Applicant’s and parents’ passport copy
  • Applicant’s and parents’ Emirates ID copy
  • Applicant’s and parents’ visa copy (For expats only)
  • Family book (For UAE Nationals only)

These documents can be scanned and emailed to the admissions officer, or parents can drop them at the RAK Academy BSK school’s admissions office.

Once documents are submitted, parents are requested to pay a non-refundable and non-transferable application fee of AED 400. After this, your child will be called for an entrance examination and interview. The result will be announced within 48 hours via email or call.

If your child successfully passes the entrance assessments, they will be offered a seat. Parents or sponsors will have to deposit a certain amount as a registration fee within 14 days of receiving the offer letter to confirm the place. The school will adjust the registration deposit against the first term’s tuition fee.

The deposit amount will be revealed after the applicant clears the entrance exam.

Please note that the re-registration deposit for existing students is:

  • AED 5,000 per student
  • AED 4,000 per student for two siblings
  • AED 3,000 per student for three or more siblings.

Just like registration deposits for new applicants, this deposit will also be adjusted against the first term’s school fee.
