COVID-19 Protocols

The Ministry of Education collaborated with schools, parents and other vital stakeholders and came up with a plan to safely reopen school for the academic year 2020-2021. Before that, the schools were shut down considering the surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in the UAE. The MOE has put strict SOPs in place for schools to follow. These are given below:

  • All the students and staff members must undergo a temperature check in the morning before entering the school’s premises. Those exceeding body temperature above 37.5-degree centigrade are not allowed to enter the campus.
  • Students and staff members must ensure social distancing at all times throughout the campus. The relevant authorities recommend a minimum distance of 2 metre. Schools must also reduce the school bus capacity to ensure social distancing is practiced on the bus.
  • Schools must periodically sanitise their campuses and educational resources.
  • School catering services will be managed according to specific guidelines issued by the ministry. Sharing of food is strictly prohibited. Parents are encouraged to send their kids with a home packed lunch box.
  • Children with special health conditions will be closely monitored by the ministry.
  • School events, holiday camps, sports events, field trips, school celebrations, morning assemblies and other activities that might result in a large crowd are suspended until further notice.
  • Physical Education (PE) will continue; however, access to swimming pools is not allowed. Schools must follow a staggered approach to allow students to access other sports facilities.
  • The maintenance and cleaning crew cannot enter the campus in the presence of students. Sanitisation and other cleaning processes should happen after regular school hours.
