COVID-19 Protocols

The government of Dubai reopened schools for the academic year 2020 to 2021. The schools were previously shut down because of the surge in COVID-19 cases. KHDA collaborated with schools, parents and other stakeholders to develop a set of protocols to offer a safe learning environment to students. All schools in Dubai have to follow the below-mentioned COVID-19 protocols:

  • Schools must sterilise the campus, including classrooms, laboratories, and frequently contacted surfaces, as per the National Authority for Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management recommendations and guidelines.
  • Schools must check the temperature of students and staff members before entering the school’s premises. No one with a temperature above 37.5-degree centigrade is allowed to enter the school.
  • Social distancing must be practised through the campus at all times. The authorities recommend a minimum distance of 1.5 metres. Schools should also reduce the bus capacity by 30% to 50% to ensure social distancing.
  • All schools must limit the activities, such as school assemblies, extracurricular events, celebrations, sports events and field trips, which results in a large crowd.
  • Schools must hire a trained health and safety officer to ensure all the processes at school comply with the health and safety protocols.
  • Physical education will continue; however, swimming pools and other sports facilities are closed until further notice. Students can access the remaining sports facilities through a staggered approach.
  • Students can either attend the school in person or opt for the distance learning programme. The school must arrange provisions for distance learning.
  • School fees remain unchanged for the current academic year; however, schools can offer discounts as they deem fit.
  • COVID-19 PCR test is mandatory for students having a travelling history. Students with no history do not need to undergo COVID-19 PCR testing.
  • KHDA recommends schools offer virtual tours to parents on school websites. If parents have to visit the school, they should comply with the health and safety measures, such as facemasks and social distancing.
