Emirates National Schools MBZ is one of the five campuses providing quality education to students. Initially developed to meet the educational requirements of the Emirati community, the school also attracts students from other nationalities. It is the oldest campus of Emirates National Schools that opened its gate in 2002. The school offers the Model American Diploma Programme that follows Common Core State Standards for English, science and mathematics. It is one of the best schools in Mussafah.

Emirates National Schools is one of the preferred IB Schools in Abu Dhabi, offering quality education to students. The campus located in Zone 5 of Mohammed Bin Zayed City is the oldest campus of Emirates National Schools. It has an enormous campus with five school buildings. The recently developed school building in 2015 is for primary students. Whereas, the school has separate buildings for boys and girls in middle and secondary school.

Classrooms are bright, spacious and fitted with interactive whiteboards for elevated learning and teaching environment. Besides, there are specialist classrooms for Physical Education (PE), Music and Art. ADEK has issued a revised set of guidelines and protocols for the safe reopening of schools for the academic year 2021-2022. Most COVID-19 protocols remain the same; however, some changes are made to facilitate the learning process. The revised protocols are as follows:

• Unlike KHDA, ADEK is still offering flexible learning solutions to students for the current academic year. Schools can opt for the following three learning models:
  • Full return – All students need to physically study on campuses.
  • Partial Return – half of the student force will study on campus on specified dates.
  • Distance Learning – Schools can offer remote learning facilities to students opting for this mode of learning.
• All students, faculty members and administrative staff, irrespective of their age or vaccination status, have to produce a negative nasal PCR or Saliva test 14 days prior to returning to school. The same applies to third-party contractors.
• ADEK has issued new vaccination guidelines for the academic year 2021-2022. Students aged 3 to 15 years old do not need to get vaccinated to physically return to schools. However, students above 16 years of age need to get two doses of vaccine and must complete 28 days of the second dose before returning to schools. Vaccination certificates must be verified on the Al Hosn App.
• Parents can now pick up and drop off their children from the classroom if the school allows. However, schools should ensure that parents do not have access to other facilities on campus.
• Moreover, ADEK has reduced the minimum physical distance from 1.5 metres to 1 metre. However, schools should continue to take precautions by maintaining a safe distance. Staff members and students above six years old should wear a mask at all times.
• Schools are now allowed to conduct swimming and sports lessons, holiday camps, extracurricular activities, after-school clubs and catering services under strict health and safety measures. Schools must clean and sanitise the changing and sports areas after each group of children.
• Students are asked to enter the specific gates wearing facemasks. The school has to check their temperatures at the entry points. Students with body temperatures over 37.5-degree centigrade are not allowed to enter. They will be sent home with their parents.

Emirates National Schools follows two curricula: the US curriculum and International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum. Primary Year Programme (PYP) Curriculum

The primary Year Programme is intended to build foundational skills among students. The PYP programme covers the educational needs of students in KG1 to Grade 5. The syllabus allows opportunities for students to learn inside and outside the classroom.

The specialised educational programme for kindergarten and primary students addresses students’ academic, emotional and social well-being. Middle Year Programme (MYP) Curriculum

From Grade 6 to Grade 10, Emirate National School follows the Middle Year Programme (MYP). The MYP curriculum is specifically developed to cultivate lifelong learning skills. The curriculum allows students to be creative, reflective and critical thinkers. Furthermore, it encourages them to link the core subjects with real life. Students in the MYP have to study two languages, mathematics, science, arts, individual and societies, design and PE. In Grade 10, students have to complete an independent personal project that shows the level of acquired skills.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) Curriculum

International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme is a high school educational programme for Grade 11 and Grade 12. It is an academically challenging yet balanced curriculum preparing students for university and future life. Students completing their IBDP programme receive a diploma that is widely accepted throughout the world.

The core of the IB DP Programme is based on the following elements:

• Extended Essay
• Creativity, Action and Service (CAS)
• Theory of Knowledge

The Extended Essay deals with independent research that provides in-depth information on a question related to one of the subjects in the IB DP programme. CAS allows students to take part in many activities that help them in learning new skills. Theory of Knowledge focuses on developing a coherent approach to learning. This results in developing a deeper understanding of concepts taught in IB DP.

Students have to select a subject each from Group 1 to Group 5. Group 1 deals with languages, Group 2 includes additional languages and Group 3 is based on social science subjects. Group 4 and Group 5 are based on experimental science and mathematics. Students also have the option of choosing an art-related subject from Group 6 and a second subject from Group 1 to Group 5.

As per the instructions of The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA), all schools across the UAE will discontinue distance learning from January 2022.

ADEK is an education regulatory body in Abu Dhabi. H. H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan established it in 2005. ADEK aims to improve and sustain the quality of education offered at educational institutes in the Abu Dhabi, Al Dhafra and Al Ain regions. Through the Irtiqaa programme, it inspects the performance of schools every 18 to 24 months and issues a school’s performance report. It rates the performance of schools based on a specifically designed six-point scale. The scale varies from outstanding (best) rating to very weak (worst) rating. A brief explanation of each rating is as follows:

ADEK last inspected Emirates National Schools MBZ for the academic year 2017-2018. In that inspection report, the school was rated as ‘very good’. Admission Process

The admission process at Emirates National Schools MBZ is straightforward. To enquire about new admission, fill the enrolment form. Parents are required to provide the following documents:

• A copy of the candidate’s passport (UID number for locals and residence visa for foreigners)
• Emirates ID of students and his or her parents
• Birth certificate of the candidate (attested certificate if applying from outside the UAE, GCC countries, Europe, USA, Canada and Scandinavian countries)
• Two passport size photographs of the candidate
• The candidate’s immunisation record
• The candidate’s report card for the last two years
• Tenancy agreement and utility bill (Electricity bill)

The school partnered with Interact for catering needs. They offer a variety of breakfast and lunch options for students at affordable prices. The breakfast include snacks with complex carbs and proteins. Breakfast menu is as follows:

In addition, students have a variety of lunch options every day, including salads, two main courses, a rice or pasta dish, a vegetable dish and a dessert. On Fridays, students get a brunch.

The school charges AED 2,100 per annum as canteen and food charges for students in KG1 to Grade 5 and AED 2,310 per annum for students in Grade 6 and above. Please note that these charges are inclusive of VAT.

The school understands that it is a popular choice among Emirati families living in different parts of Abu Dhabi. It is difficult for parents to pick up and drop their children to and from school every day.
