Kindergarten Curriculum

Kindergarten is one of the crucial stages of education in the life of a student. In this stage, children are introduced to the school environment. The school understands that the school environment can overwhelm young toddlers. To make it a better experience, the school follows non-formal teaching strategies to familiarise students with the outside world. The kindergarten programme focuses on developing fundamental skills and concepts, including communication and linguistic, motor skills, and children’s inquisitive nature to understand the world around them. Students are exposed to plenty of indoor and outdoor activities in which they play and learn.

Students completing kindergarten 2 (KG2) have the following set of skills:

  • Passion for education
  • Healthy self-concept
  • Awareness of culture and rich heritage of the UAE
  • Coordination
  • Physical and intellectual skills

With the aforementioned skills, young learners are ready to tackle the next academic endeavour of elementary education. For more information, read the curricular overview of the kindergarten programme at EAS Sharjah.

Elementary School Curriculum

In the elementary stage, the school continues to follow the American curriculum. The school gradually introduces students to formal teaching methods. The level of difficulty increases after each grade.

In Grade 1, the school focuses on building strong reading skills. The reading skills help students to learn different concepts with little difficulty. The grade 1 educational programme is an action-filled plan full of learning and development.

In Grade 2, children get used to the daily routine of school. Students take their studies seriously and teachers use more formal learning strategies to develop students’ skills. By the end of Grade 2, students develop analytical skills.

In Grade 3, the school focuses on strengthening the analytical abilities of students. The educational programme builds on the fundamental skills developed in previous grades to attain the set learning objectives. By the end of Grade 3, students can understand multi-syllable words, understand figurative language and comprehend the relationship of one word to another.

In Grade 4 and Grade 5, students learn new skills that would help the subsequent phase of education. Emirates American School expands both academic and non-academic horizons that develop team-building, coordination and cooperation skills.

Middle School Curriculum

In the middle school stage, students are taught by more than one teacher in different classrooms.
Specialist teachers deliver most subjects. Students can understand advanced mathematics, tackle advanced reading and greater analytical and scientific skills. This is a crucial stage, as students are prepared for secondary education. By the end of Grade 8, students are ready to enter the second phase of education.

High School Curriculum

In the high school stage, the school continues to adopt the US curriculum with far greater academic challenges. As students progress through each grade, they work on their independent thinking and creative problem-solving skills. Teachers play a pivotal role in helping students to choose an appropriate career path for themselves. At this stage, students can take part in many school clubs, enrichment activities and specialised programmes.
