Overview

Scheduled to open in September 2021, Cedar School is an upcoming co-educational British school in Dubai that will offer primary education from Foundation Stage 1 to Year 6. There are plans to add other year groups gradually and become an all-through school. The existing Cedar School campus is large enough to cater to many students and transforms them into confident, happy individuals by acquiring knowledge, attitude and skills.

The planned teacher to student ratio is 2:25 in FS and 2:28 in Year 1 to Year 3. In Year 4 to Year 6, the ratio will be 1:28, and one teaching assistant will serve two classes. The maximum class size will be 25 in the FS and 28 in Year 1 to Year 13.

Presently, most Cedar School teachers belong to the UK and Ireland and have teaching qualifications and a minimum of two years of experience post their degree.

The curriculum at Cedar School will be based on the English National Curriculum (NCfE) with slight modifications as per the UAE and Dubai education system requirements. All students will get quality international education, and there will be a strong focus on digital technology.

Campus of Cedar School Dubai

The school campus is designed in a way to offer a warm community feel to kids studying here. The purpose-built campus building has ground + three floors, and there are plenty of innovative outdoor spaces. Premium facilities on offer include specialist Science laboratories, IT centres and two indoor swimming pools where one is dedicated to Foundation Stage students.

The Foundation Stage section meets the KHDA requirements and is specifically designed separately from other parts of the school. This section has a dedicated entrance and exit as well as pick up and drop off arrangements. FS learning and play areas are available on the ground floor. School Details

Years offered at Cedar School Dubai

The school is currently offering classes from FS1 to Year 6. All classes are divided into three sections:

As stated earlier, Cedar school will open from Foundation Stage 1 to Year 6 in September 2021. There will be three FS1 and three FS2 classes. Years 1 and 2 will have two classes for the year group. Similarly, Years 3 to 6 will each have one class.

Cedar plans to introduce:

  • Year 7 in 2022-23 academic year
  • Year 8 in the 2023-24 academic session
  • Year 9 in the 2024-25 academic year

However, these changes are subject to KHDA approval. Cedar’s first KHDA inspection is scheduled to take place in 2024-2025.

Cedar School will follow the British curriculum framework. Teachers will be encouraged to enhance and extend the curriculum where possible during the normal course of teaching and through various clubs, societies, and extra-curricular activities.

Students will participate in the UAE’s vision 2020 targeted bench-marking test and other tests such as PIRLS, TIMSS and PISA assessments.

Cedar School will offer education based on the British curriculum. Teachers can enhance or extend the curriculum to suit the diverse needs of students. As stated earlier, they can also add additional clubs, societies and extracurricular activities to support the academic program.

In Key Stage 4, students will get a good range of subject choices to meet their interest and capabilities. Guidance is available in Year 9 that gradually builds up through the year.

Use of Assessment for Learning (AfL) techniques are utilised to identify prior knowledge for engaging students actively. It supports differentiated instruction where needed.

The main aim of Year 7 is to ensure students can read and write the Arabic language at the beginner level. Standards for Arabic A as directed by the MoE curriculum and higher are adopted at the school as well.

Technology and Innovations will be an important part of the curriculum at Cedar School. These subjects are incorporated across all aspects of the curriculum. Students who select computing and Computer Science as a specialist get enhanced learning opportunities such as coding, sensing, communication and control.

Computing use is integrated into subjects as spreadsheets in Mathematics and editing tools in English and Photography.

Parents can fill the online application form available on the school website. Once the form is successfully submitted, parents are asked to send the documents listed below:

  • Copies of students’ and parents’ passports, visas and Emirates IDs.
  • Behaviour and conduct report from the previous school
  • Birth certificate (for Foundation Stage only)
  • Last two school reports
  • Transfer certificate (must be in English or Arabic and stamped by the current school)
  • Students who are waiting for the visa to be processed can apply for admission as the school accepts such applications whilst the student gets his/her documents.
