Lastly, children aged 4 years old enter the foundation stage of education.

Curriculum at British Berries Nursery

British Berries Nursery adopted an educational programme that revolves around the standards and key points of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework of Education. It is a renowned early childhood educational programme that meets the statutory requirements of childhood education imposed by the British government. It is one of the popular reality childhood educational pedagogies that is adopted by many nurseries and preschools around the world. The British EYFS curriculum focuses on catering to the academic and developmental needs of children by exposing them to a flexible environment where teachers emphasise play and learning activities.

The underpinning philosophy of the Early Years Foundation stage framework is that each child is unique and independent. Each child learns at his or her own pace. A nursery can encourage children to reach their full potential by exposing them to a range of opportunities and activities. The EYFS framework is applicable to the educational programmes of children from birth to five years old. There are seven key areas that help in building the foundational skills of students. These seven key areas of learning are divided into two broad categories: prime areas of learning and specific areas of learning. Initially, the nursery focuses on building prime areas of learning to a satisfactory level. Afterwards, teachers start building students' skills in specific areas of learning. The prime areas of learning are:

  • Communication and Language
  • Social, Emotional and Personal Development
  • Physical Development

The specific areas of learning are:

  • Numeracy
  • Literacy
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

The aforementioned seven key areas of learning are used by teachers to plan activities and events. Teachers ensure that the planned activities meet the academic and non-academic needs of children. The nursery complements the educational programme with its nurturing and warm environment. The learning environment at British Berries Nursery is based on the fact that each child is a curious individual who seeks relationships with others and develops an understanding of the world through active engagement and experiences.
