COVID-19 Protocols

Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) collaborated with parents, schools and other stakeholders to come up with a plan for the safe reopening of schools. The ministry of education has reopened the schools for the academic year 2020-2021 following specific guidelines, called the COVID-19 protocols. The COVID-19 protocols are as follows:

Schools can choose a combination of the below-mentioned learning model to start the academic year based on their capacity and parental survey:

  • Full-day learning
  • Half-day learning
  • Alternative days or weeks learning
  • Hybrid learning – a combination of the aforementioned learning models

Whatever learning model is chosen, schools have to abide by the COVID-19 protocols to ensure a safe learning environment for students.

  • Students and or any of their family members must not have a travelling history outside UAE for at least 14 days before the start of the school. In case of travelling history, students have to abide by the travelling restrictions imposed by the Government of Abu Dhabi.
  • Parents may prefer distance learning over on-site learning because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Schools must arrange distance learning provisions for them. However, parents must remain committed to the chosen learning model.
  • Schools are not obliged to offer discounts to parents. Parents facing financial difficulties can individually contact the school.
  • Check the temperature of students and staff entering the school. No one with a temperature above 37.5-degree centigrade is allowed to enter the premises. Students will be returned to their home.
  • Schools must install handwashing and sanitation stations throughout the campus.
  • Students above 12 years old and staff members have to produce a negative COVID-19 PCR test result before physically attending the school.
  • Students above six years of age and staff members need to wear a mask at all times.
  • Social distancing must be practised throughout the campus. A minimum of 1.5 metres is recommended among teachers and staff. Schools can separate students’ desks and chairs 2 meters apart. As a result, schools are also reducing the school bus capacity to ensure students can practise social distancing on the bus.
  • Limit school activities that may result in gathering a large crowd. These activities include morning assemblies, sports events, field trips and extra-curricular activities.
  • Schools need to group students into multiple groups. Each group can have a maximum of 15 students.

Beaconhouse Private School Al Ain Curriculum

The school follows a curriculum that closely adheres to the framework of the National Curriculum of the UK. The curriculum is based on three key stages: Key Stage 1 (KS1), Key Stage 2 (KS2) and Key Stage 3 (KS3) indicating that each student studies the same subjects irrespective of their background, level of academic attainment and nationality.

The school also incorporated subjects, such as Arabic and Islamic Education, as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Education (MOE). With this curriculum, the school aims to offer opportunities to students to learn the sustainable development goals 2030 issued by the United Nations. As a result, students understand their social responsibilities and role in the world. The specifics for each phase of education are as follows:

Foundation Stage Curriculum

Foundation Stage is one of the crucial stages in the academic journey of students. Beaconhouse Private School Al Ain follows a non-traditional and informal teaching approach based on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework of education. It is a popular framework that prepares young learners for primary education. In this stage, teachers focus on the following seven key areas of learning:

  • Social, Emotional and Personal Development
  • Literacy (language)
  • Numeracy (mathematics)
  • Communication
  • Knowledge and Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design
  • Physical development

Innovative, stimulating and inquiry-based approaches are utilised to build students’ skills in the aforementioned learning areas. Typically, formal lessons are not part of the curriculum. However, the school may introduce students to formal lessons in phonics and mathematics if they depict signs of readiness. Students are exposed to a plethora of indoor and outdoor activities where the campus facilities are fully utilised. Students completing the FS2 stage are ready to tackle the next academic endeavour – primary education.

For more information, read the EYFS curriculum of Beaconhouse Private School.

Primary Stage Curriculum

The primary stage curriculum consists of two key stages: KS1 and KS2. These key stages seamlessly prepare students for tougher challenges waiting for them in the subsequent stages.

Students are gradually introduced to a more formal learning environment in KS1 (year 1 and Year 2). In KS2, students are familiar with the formal teaching methods and assessments. The primary stage curriculum revolvers around theme-based subjects and cross-curricular links. As a result, students in the primary stage have outstanding citizenship, social learning and humanities skills. Students are given opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities and school clubs for the development of all-round skills.
