Established in 2009, Al Yasmina Academy is a co-educational school in Al Raha Gardens, Abu Dhabi. It is one of the seven Aldar Academies in Abu Dhabi. The school delivers the British Curriculum from Foundation Stage to Year 13.

Aldar Academies has a dedicated Director of Innovation and Special Projects who constantly revises the learning module to incorporate technology. School Details

COVID-19 Protocols

ADEK has worked extensively with schools, parents councils, staff members and policymakers to design effective safety measures to implement once schools reopen. Here’s a summary of SOPs to give you a better understanding.

  • Those entering the school premises must wear a face mask. KG students are exempted. Students and staff who cannot wear masks due to medical conditions must provide a supportive medical certificate.
  • Daily temperature and symptoms screening is recommended before leaving the house. Individuals who exhibit symptoms or feel unwell must stay at home. They must see a doctor for assessment and possible COVID-19 testing if required.
  • Individuals aged 16 and above who have completed 28 days following the second dose with a UAE-approved vaccine are authorised to enter the school premises upon presenting their vaccination status on the ALHOSN app.
  • Children below 16 are authorised to enter the school premises without vaccination.
  • The school shall implement physical distancing of 1 to 2 metres between all individuals.
  • Schools may follow three operating models: A full school day, attending on a rotational basis or a blended learning model.
  • Schools are authorised to reopen all athletic facilities for use during physical education (PE), extracurricular activities, and for private use by staff outside of regular school hours.
  • Schools shall reinstate PE (including swimming) classes and all sports activities, provided they are implemented with the relevant risk mitigation controls in place.
  • Whether organised by the school or by an external provider, extracurricular activities shall be permitted for students enrolled in the school only.
  • Events within the school consisting of large assemblies mixing different student groups are not permitted.
  • School trips and inter-school events shall be resumed.
  • Cooking on the school premises is authorised, and schools are recommended to reopen canteens if they were previously closed. However, food must be served by a designated staff member to avoid sharing serving utensils.
  • Prayer rooms may be reopened.
  • Schools are recommended to reopen libraries if they were previously closed.
  • Bus capacity has been increased from 50% to between 59% and 66%.

Al Yasmina Academy Curriculum

Al Yasmina Academy delivers the National Curriculum of England and Wales while inculcating the Ministry of Education curriculum and the core values of Aldar Academies education.

The curriculum focuses on knowledge and skills and values, excellence, passion, collaboration, respect, and creativity. Participation in extracurricular activities and co-scholastic are equally important for good results.

The English National Curriculum is a globally recognised curriculum focusing on inquiry and project-based learning. Students prepare for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examination through this curriculum before progressing to A-levels.

The curriculum also inculcates the Ministry of Education (MOE) subjects, including Arabic, Islamic (for Muslim students) and UAE Social Studies. Students develop an understanding and appreciation of the United Arab Emirates through these subjects.

Distance Learning at Al Yasmina Academy

As per the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) instructions, all schools across the UAE will discontinue distance learning from January 2022.

ADEK Rating

The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) licenses all private education institutes. Through the Irtiqaa Programme, it carries out periodic evaluations of all schools based on six basic criteria:

Academic Calendar for Al Yasmina Academy

The academic year at Al Yasmina Academy is split into three terms.

  • First term commences in the last week of August and concludes in the last week of December. Students enjoy a winter break for three weeks. 
  • Second term begins in the first week of January and ends in the last week of March. Students then enjoy a short spring break. 
  • Third term commences in the second week of April and concludes in the first week of July.

Lunch Options at Yasmina Academy

All schools operating under Aldar Academies provide healthy and nutritious meals to students. Al Yasmina Academy’s menu ensures that the food is healthy and caters to the growing needs of children.

The school provides hot and cold lunches that include assorted fruit, wholemeal grain and cooked and raw vegetables. The school shuns away from ready-to-eat packaged food and opts for fresh ingredients instead. A meal costs an average of AED 15-20.

School Transportation at Al Yasmina Academy

Al Yasmina School Aldar Academies has outsourced transportation to Hafilat School Transport. They have a fleet of air-conditioned buses and all drivers undergo comprehensive training to ensure the highest quality of service. Supervisors are available on each bus, and they are responsible for the safety and security of students. Parents can view the bus routes and timings provided by the school to pick the best option for their child.

Al Yasmina School has a dedicated community service programme. Students can visit countries that are struggling with global issues. Al Yasmina students have visited Uganda and Borneo, where they assisted local communities by volunteering for housing projects.

Some activities take place after school hours and have over 40 options for students to choose from.

Medical Care at Al Yasmina Academy

The academy has a fully equipped clinic with a full-time school nurse. The nurse is available throughout the day to administer first aid and provide prescription medicine.

The nurse is registered and licensed with the Health Authority Abu Dhabi and works with doctors to assist students with asthma and diabetes. Together the staff conducts regular weight, height and vision screenings and administers the vaccination.
