School Details

COVID-19 Protocols

The government of UAE decided to reopen the schools for on-site learning for the academic year 2021-2022. It has issued a set of safety guidelines to help schools to offer a safe learning environment for students and staff. The following SOPs are implemented by schools in the emirate, including Delhi Private School Sharjah:

  • All students above 12 years old and staff members, including teachers, have to submit negative COVID-19 PCR test results before returning to schools. The test must be performed 72 hours before physically appearing at school.
  • Employees need to get two doses of COVID-19 vaccines before physically entering schools. Those exempted from vaccination have to provide a relevant medical certificate issued by the health department and a negative COVID-19 PCR test 72 hours before appearing for school. The test results must be submitted every week.
  • The security team must check the temperature of students, staff and third-party contractors each morning. Those with temperatures above 37.5 degrees centigrade are not allowed to enter schools.
  • A safe distance of 1.5 metres must be maintained within classrooms and on campus. Schools can use physical markings to maintain the distance.
  • A stable group of 10 or fewer students is recommended for students from Pre-KG to KG2.
  • Lockers are permitted as long as each child has a designated locker and social distancing protocols are not compromised.
  • Some school facilities, such as dress up sections, indoor and outdoor play areas, swimming pools and reading corners, etc. will remain closed until further notice.
  • Students above six years old and staff members have to wear a face mask at all times. They are advised to bring two facemasks daily. Students below six years old are exempted from wearing a mask.
  • Bus capacity is reduced to 50% to ensure social distancing on buses.
  • Seating arrangements will be clearly marked out in canteen areas; no students will be permitted to sit directly adjacent or next to one another. A physical distance of 2 meters should be kept in canteen areas.
  • Schools can operate a pre-selected and pre-packed lunch service, with no live cooking taking place at school. 
  • School events, field trips, extracurricular activities, after-school clubs and activities, sports events, holiday camps and celebrations are suspended until further notice.
  • Extra-curricular activities are encouraged to be offered digitally. 
  • Physical education will continue; however, access to swimming pools is not allowed.

Al-Maarifa International Private School Curriculum

The curriculum at MIS is designed to provide its students with exposure to the creative, social, scientific and athletic areas of learning. At a foundation level, the school focuses on developing the students’ skills in languages, mathematics, sciences, humanities, Information Technology (IT), Islamic studies, Physical Education (PE), music and art. Al-Maarifa International Private School imparts education in the American Curriculum until Grade 9. Students can choose to continue the same curriculum or can opt for the British curriculum. The British Program

Students who opt for the British Curriculum take the A/AS-Level exams at the end of Grade 12. The students’ performance in the IGCSE exams is taken into consideration while selecting the subjects for A/AS-Levels.

Students who opt for the British Program also have to take the common exam held by the Ministry of Education for Arabic and Islamic Studies at the end of Grade 12. They will then receive their High School Diploma and the UAE official Secondary Certificate (Thaniwiyah).

Distance Learning

The school offers a distance-learning programme to students when the government of UAE shut them down. The essential requirement for distance learning education was a computer or a laptop (can be time-shared by students) and an internet connection for online classes and accessing information. The school uses Zoom application and eclass app for online classes.

Academic Calendar for Al-Maarifa International Private School

The academic year at Al-Maarifa International Private School is split into two terms. The school observes two term breaks during the year– one at the end of December and one in March. 

The school is closed on religious and national holidays subject to announcements made by the Ministry of Education. 

The school day commences at 07:30 am for students of all grades. The day concludes at 01:20 pm for students from KG1 to Grade 3 and 02:05 pm for students from Grade 4 to Grade 12. 

The academic year starts in last week of August. Students go on a winter break in the third week of December and return to school in the first week of January. Spring break is expected from the last week of March till the second week of April. The academic year ends in the last week of June.

Admission and Fees

How to Apply to Al-Maarifa International Private School

The admissions procedure at Al-Maarifa International Private School is as follows: 

  • Prospective parents should register their contact number and their children’s name and grade at the school’s reception.
  • Students registering for Grades 1 to 4 are expected to sit for an entrance exam in English and Mathematics. 
  • Students registering for Grades 5 to 12 will go through an interview procedure and an entrance exam in English Language and Mathematics. 
  • The school will contact the parents regarding the entrance exam and interview results will be shared within a week of the same. 
  • Once their children clear the entrance exam, parents can proceed with the registration process by filling out the application form and submitting the required documents. 

Documents for admission are: 

  • Two passport copy with a valid residence visa
  • Two birth certificate copy (in English or Arabic)
  • Two copy of the UAE Emirates ID for the student and their father (sponsor)
  • Two Father’s (sponsor) passport copy with a valid residence visa
  • Six passport size photographs
  • Two copy of the Nationality ID (for UAE nationals)
  • Second term report card
  • Continuation of Studies Certificate
  • Financial clearance from the previous school
  • A down payment of AED 500 is applicable (deductible from the school fees) upon registration (non-refundable in case of withdrawal)
  • Attested Transfer Certificate (TC) (to be submitted before Summer Vacation)
  • Final Report Card (to be submitted before Summer Vacation)
  • Copy of the student’s immunisation record or previous school’s medical file.

Transfer Certificate (TC) should be attested by:

  • If issued from emirates other than Sharjah:
    • Should be attested from that emirate’s educational zone.
  • If issued from other GCC countries:
    • Should be attested from the Ministry of Education of the country.
  • If issued from USA / Canada / Australia / New Zealand / Western Europe :
    • An original certificate with the previous class stated clearly, sealed with the school stamp, and issued in or translated to English or Arabic language (if translated, the translation should be legally attested).
  • If issued from other countries:
    • An original certificate sealed by the school stamp, issued in or translated to English or Arabic language (if translated, the translation should be legally attested) and attested from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UAE embassy in that country.

Important guidelines to keep in mind during the admissions process at MIS: 

  • Students have to meet the Age Requirements for each grade set by the Ministry of Education. 
  • KG1 and KG2 students are interviewed by the school’s Social Advisor.
  • Entrance exams and interviews will be held in the school every starting from mid-April.
  • To register for Grade 12 British Curriculum, students need to pass 5 IGCSE subjects and the school’s interview.
  • Application forms with incomplete documents will not be accepted. 
  • First instalment in cash, second and third instalments of fees in post-dated cheques payable on the first of November and first of February– all should be submitted before the beginning of the academic year.

Al Marifa International Private School does not provide any after-school care. However, most of the extracurricular activities that take place at the school transpire after school hours.

There are three medical clinics at MIS– one in the Primary section, one in the Boys’ section and one in the Girls’ section.
