Al Ittihad Private School Jumeirah is an American K-12 school in Al Safa. This private school follows the US national curriculum and provides quality education to students aged 3 to 18 years old. IPS Jumeirah is one of the two branches in Dubai that opened in 1998. Its other branch – Al Ittihad Private School Al Mamzar was the first school in the city established in 1978. Today, there are three more branches in the UAE: two in Abu Dhabi and one in Al Ain.

Currently, the school has over 2,400 students, predominantly local Emiratis. The teaching staff has around 175 full-time experienced teachers and 37 teaching assistants with relevant qualifications. School Details

COVID-19 Protocols

KHDA has issued a new set of protocols to allow students to return to their schools physically. These protocols are implemented for the academic year 2021-2022 and are as follows:

  • It is not mandatory for teachers and staff to be vaccinated to attend schools in the UAE. Employees that are eligible and have not completed their dual shots programme are required to submit a negative COVID-19 PCR test every week.
  • Schools are not allowed to continue their distance learning programme from 31st October 2021. Those unable to physically attend the school can submit relevant health certificates issued by Dubai Health Authority (DHA).
  • Parents are now allowed to pick up and drop off their children at school from designated points. However, schools should ensure that parents do not have access to other facilities on campus.
  • The minimum physical distance for schools in Dubai is now 1 metre. Previously, schools were asked to maintain a distance of 1.5 metres. Schools must take precautions and ensure that students above six years old and staff members wear a mask at all times.
  • Schools are now allowed to conduct swimming and sports lessons, holiday camps, extracurricular activities, after-school clubs and catering services under strict health and safety measures. Schools must clean and sanitise the changing and sports areas after each group of children.
  • Students are asked to enter the specific gates wearing facemasks. The school has to check their temperatures at the entry points. Students with body temperatures over 37.5-degree centigrade are not allowed to enter. They will be sent home with their parents.

High School students are expected to clear the SAT 1 and IELTS test to receive the High School Diploma. They need to clear SAT 1 for maths with 511 marks, critical reading with 495 marks and writing with at least 484 marks. Students also need to complete at least 22 credits out of the 28 offered credits.

Distance Learning

IPS Jumeirah initiated the distance-learning programme to ensure that students continue to learn during lockdowns and school closures. The programme is still in operation and educating thousands of students enrolled in this school. The online resources used for this purpose include Edmodo, Schoology and applications like Achieve 3000 and SmartyAnts. The teaching lessons include a combination of synchronous and asynchronous lectures delivered through the aforementioned mediums.

As per the new COVID-19 protocols issued by KHDA, schools are discontinuing the distance learning programme from October 3, 2021. Those wishing to continue their education via distance learning have to show a relevant health certificate issued by Dubai Health Authority (DHA). Schools may revert back to distance learning if COVID-19 cases are detected in a class or a group in a class.

KHDA Rating

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) is a governmental body established in 2006. It is a regulatory body developed to improve and maintain the quality of education offered in Dubai. It inspects the performances of schools, colleges and universities in Dubai and offers a detailed report on their performances. It inspects the performances of schools based on a specifically designed scale. It is a six-point scale that varies from outstanding to very weak.

The academic year at Al Ittihad Private School Jumeira Starts in late August and ends in late June. There are two semesters in its academic year with the following important dates:

First semester

The first semester starts in the last week of August and ends with semester exams in the last week of January. The parent-teacher meeting for the first semester usually happens in the last week of November. Students also go on a 3-week winter holiday that starts mid-December.

Second semester

After the end of the first semester examinations, the second semester starts in the last week of January. The second parent-teacher meeting happens in the last week of April. How to Apply to Al Ittihad Private School Jumeira?

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the school encouraged parents to visit the school by booking a tour on the official website. However, due to COVID-19, IPS Jumeriah is offering a virtual tour on its website.

To apply, submit the online application form and pay the application fee of AED 500 (exclusive of VAT). Please note that the application fee is non-refundable, non-transferable and non-adjustable. The following documents are also required to complete the application process:

  • A copy of the candidate’s birth certificate
  • A copy of the candidate’s and parent’s Emirates ID card
  • Three recent passport-size photographs
  • A copy of the candidate’s vaccination record
  • A copy of the candidate’s passport and valid UAE residence visa (if applying outside the UAE)
  • Transfer or school leaving certificate
  • A copy of the previous academic record for the last 2 years including recent standardised tests
  • Documents indicating special educational needs (if applicable)

Please note that a transfer certificate is important for admission to Al Ittihad Private School Jumeira. The guidelines for transfer certificate are:

Students applying from Canada, New Zealand, USA and Western Europe need to provide a transfer certificate with the school’s stamp and principal’s signature. No attestation is required for them.

Those applying from GCC countries need to get their certificates attested by the Ministry of Education of that country.

Lunch Options at Al Ittihad Private School Jumeira

At Al Ittihad Private School Jumeira, there is a canteen and an air-conditioned cafeteria where students can buy their lunches or enjoy home-packed meals. All the food items supplied by the cafeteria are cooked and prepared in a hygienic environment. The canteen is managed by Al Bustan, a third-party catering service provider that strictly follows the regulations of Dubai Municipality and food storage. School Transportation at Al Ittihad Private School Jumeira

IPS Jumeirah offers a plethora of facilities to students including the school transport service. The transport service is especially important for students coming far from the school. To ensure safe and efficient performance, the school outsourced transport operations to the Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC). DTC is a part of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) that is experienced in offering transport services to top schools in Dubai.

DTC manages a fleet of well-maintained buses equipped with the latest safety and security features. It follows the highest international quality and safety standards to ensure a safe and comfortable ride for each student. The safety features include:

  • CCTV cameras for surveillance monitored by the master control room
  • Radio Frequency Identity (RFID) card system for attendance
  • Global Positioning System (GPS) trackers that are used to monitor the bus location via the mobile application
  • Noise-free interior and use of hydraulic suspension system for easy movement inside buses

Medical Care at Al Ittihad Private School Jumeira
