ABOUT AL RASS A
Al Rass, or Al Raas, is a coastal neighbourhood located in the northern region of Umm Al Quwain. It is split into four precincts known as Al Rass A, B, C and D. The central and relatively smaller sub-community is Al Rass A. It lies parallel to one of Umm Al Quwain’s major highways called King Faisal Road (E55). The sub-community of Al Rass A is a small and quiet area that has a majority of low-rise properties. The amenities in Al Rass A include a mosque, supermarket, clinic, an educational institute, charity organisation and a few other retail outlets. There is also a marina, police station and a place to perform congregational Eid prayer in the nearby areas.

Based in a small city, most amenities off the premises are close too. People living in Al Rass A also enjoy the proximity to Umm Al Quwain Beach and many other coastal spots.
PROPERTIES IN AL RASS A
The residential properties in Al Rass A are mostly one, two and three-storey villas that have boundary walls around them. Each of these private properties are built over large plot sizes and thus include expansive outdoor spaces that are often landscaped with trees.
TRANSPORTATION AND PARKING SPACES IN AL RASS A
King Faisal Road provides the best routes for transportation near Al Rass A and connects the area to the major Al Ittihad Street (E11) highway which provides further connectivity to the neighbouring cities. Al Ittihad Street is also where Umm Al Quwain Bus Stop is located. Buses en route to Dubai from Ras Al Khaimah, or the other way round, make a stop at this station in between.
Residents do not have to worry about finding parking spaces in Al Rass A as the sub-community is less populous so there is a good chance they will find a spot for their car any time of the day.
AMENITIES, SCHOOLS AND HEALTHCARE
SUPERMARKETS IN AL RASS A
There are few plazas that house various retail outlets such as tailoring shops, gift stores, pharmacies and supermarkets in Al Rass A. One of them is known as Riyadh Plaza which features shops like Malabar Gold & Diamonds, Power Magic Nutrition and a gift shop called Geet General Trading. Adjacent to Riyadh Plaza is the large complex of LuLu Centre – Supermarket & Department Store. Nearby supermarkets and grocery stores include Coral Grocery, Safeera Supermarket, Abu Jalal Supermarket and Al Sahib Foodstuff Est. at a two to three-minute driving distance.
MOSQUES IN AL RASS A
Centrally located, Masjid Jaber Bin Abdullah is the only community mosque in Al Rass A. However, residents can easily access the main mosque of the parent neighbourhood called Masjid Sheikh Ahmed Bin Rashid. Featuring beautiful architecture, this place of worship offers a bigger space to perform prayers in congregation. It also has an outdoor parking facility with multiple bays. Other nearby mosques include Masjid Al Ghufran, Masjid Al Rigga and Masjid Al Ansar.
OTHER PLACES OF WORSHIP NEAR AL RASS A
Currently there are a couple of worshipping facilities in Umm Al Quwain for Christians. Fortunately, these two churches near Al Rass A are located in close proximity. The northern Church Centre is close to the coast and is accessible in just six minutes, while the southern Our Lady of Arabia Church is located towards the mainland and is accessible in approximately 12 minutes.
There are no temples near Al Rass A. However, those who want to visit a temple will have to venture far from their homes. With a journey of nearly half an hour to Sharjah, they will be able to visit a Hindu temple called India Sangatadham Gigaso. Whereas, the temples in Dubai will require a drive of minimum an hour.

School-going kids can be sent to one of the following schools near Al Rass A:

For basic education, parents can consider the schools in the nearby areas such as Habitat School - Umm Al Quwain, Al Manahil Primary School and U.A.Q Girls School for Basic Education. Habitat School - Umm Al Quwain follows the Ministry of Education UAE system and the National Curriculum Framework [NCF] 2005. They take in students for classes starting from KG-1 to Grade 9. The school also involves a number of activities such as research and organic farming, as well as, facilities that include library, community spaces, cyber square, football field, and indoor and outdoor play areas.
There aren’t many options for higher education in the emirate, however, Al Rass A is home to Civil Institute for Vocational Training and Emirates Canadian University College. There is also British Applied College located at a mere distance of two minutes.
CLINICS AND HOSPITALS NEAR AL RASS A
There are many medical facilities just across King Faisal Road but you can also find one clinic in Al Rass A. It is Thumbay Clinic, a branch of the well-known service provider in the UAE. It is located just around the corner at the LuLu Centre complex near Majid Al Awal Roundabout. Others include Al Noor Clinic, Jamal Clinic and Dr. Sinan Eye Clinic.
Patients seeking a more advanced healthcare can visit any of the two major hospitals near Al Rass A. One of them is Umm Al Quwain Hospital at a convenient drive of just three minutes. The other, Sheikh Khalifa General Hospital, is at a relatively far distance of 15 minutes and lies off Al Ittihad Street (E11). It has been awarded gold seal by Joint Commission International, ensuring best healthcare practices. A few highlights of this general hospital include 15 ICU beds, 18 neonatal intensive care unit beds, 16 VIP suites, eight operation theatres and a 24-hour emergency unit. Medical stores in the sub-community include HealthFirst and Thumbay Pharmacy.

Al Riqqah is situated to the east, while Al Maidan spreads towards the south. The community of Al Riqqah is similar to Al Rass A in terms of housing options and amenities. A few notable amenities include a travel agency branch of Emirates Airlines and a couple of schools. Al Maidan has a vibrant vibe as it features a marina, beach and a four-star resort called Umm Al Quwain Beach Hotel. Old Town Area is a peninsula area that occupies the northern edge of the city.

MALLS NEAR AL RASS A
Unlike those found in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, malls near Al Rass A are not grand and glitzy but they rather focus more on functionality and convenience. Some of these shopping places are:

- City Mall
If you drive down King Faisal Road, you will be able to spot Mall of UAQ towards your left after 10 minutes. Being the newest shopping destination in the emirate, Mall of UAQ is a breath of fresh air for avid shoppers living in Al Rass A. While its anchor store is Lulu Hypermarket and Department Store, the mall features the following amenities too:

Orange Hub is an indoor amusement centre that has a range of engaging games and rides. Some of the offerings at Orange Hub include arcade games, bowling alleys and mission-based Laser Tag arena. Relatively smaller, China Mall Umm Al Quwain is located right opposite to Al Rass A across King Faisal Road. It stocks clothing and accessories imported from China that are sold at bargain prices.
RESTAURANTS NEAR AL RASS A
The long stretch of King Faisal Road is dotted with various restaurants near Al Rass A. Some of these are:

If you look around Al Rass, the neighbourhood itself offers a diversity of flavours. Desi Tarqa serves Pakistani cuisine, while Taiba Restaurant & Grill is where diners enjoy Middle Eastern food. There are also many cafeterias and a few cosy cafes near Al Rass A such as:

BEACHES NEAR AL RASS A
Since the emirate is bordered by a natural coastline, there is an impressive series of sandy islands, coastal resorts and expansive beaches near Al Rass A. Set in tropical gardens, Umm Al Quwain Beach Hotel is a four-star leisure destination that features an inviting outdoor pool, a restaurant with buffet and a la carte services and a collection of seafront villas. This resort on Umm Al Quwain Beach also has a liquor shop that boasts a wide variety of brands. Other beachfront holiday destinations include Flamingo Beach Resort, Palma Beach Resort and Barracuda Beach Resort.

The closest landmark that helps new visitors locate the sub-community is Al Madinah Police Station. There are also numerous leisure destinations near the vicinity such as:

Even though it is not as large as the other UAE cities, there are many attractions in Umm Al Quwain for people who want to spend their leisure time outdoors. You can find UAQ National Museum in the Old Town Area, accessible after a seven-minute drive. The area is also home to Sheikh Khalifa Marine Research Centre. Upon prior appointment, the facility provides visitors access to an aquarium that features several species of fish, snakes, rays and corals. Kite Beach Centre is a tourist attraction located just beside Umm Al Quwain Beach Hotel. It hosts a number of exciting activities such as scuba diving, kayaking, horse-riding and dining by the beach. It also has a kite school that provides training on kite surfing. Outdoorsy people who enjoy bird watching can take a trip to Khor Al Beidah, a natural wildlife reserve that is 20 minutes away. THINGS TO CONSIDER
Compared to the real estates in metropolitan cities, Al Rass A and the entire city is more traditional with fewer modern buildings. Yet, in terms of tourism, Umm Al Quwain has a lot of attractions to offer and several of these spots are located in proximity to Al Rass A. Also, higher education institutes are limited in the region. However, there are numerous options in neighbouring cities that are accessible within 45 minutes. These include Ajman University and the educational hub of University City in Sharjah.
