Overview
Binghatti Gateways design draws its inspiration from the Mashrabiya (The Traditional Arabian Architectural Style) prominently located throughout the traditional Bastakiya area of Dubai. These screens were an innovative solution for providing privacy, shading, and architectural ornamentation. Blending form with function, this concept was developed in Binghatti Gateway to combat the harsh climatic environment of the scorching Dubai desert.
The buildings balconies are gently twisted to turn away from the sun while also providing an incredible view of the Dubai Creek and Downtown Dubai Skyline. To magnify this design element, the buildings undulating floors were positioned to give the building its iconic wavy appearance. The result of this design process is a uniquely modern reinterpretation of traditional ideas that are still relevant to the regional culture and climate. With a fresh take on historical ideas, Binghatti Gateway is a rare example of vernacular architecture that has often been overlooked in the pursuit of modernism in Dubai.
