The area is slightly quieter than Jumeirah 2, or neighbouring Safa and is largely residential in nature. Most accommodation consists of Arabic style double story villas, but there are single story villas (some in compounds) to be found in the area too. Apartments are few and far between.
The area is well served for supermarkets with a large Choitrams on Al Wasl road, and 5 minutes further up the road there's a large Spinneys in its own complex.
The area around Al Safa Park also now contains a number of cafes and casual restaurants, and via Al Wasl and Jumeirah Beach Road the area is pretty connected. You can also now walk to the Dubai Canal, and cycle paths are beginning to sprout across the area.
Restaurants and cafes can be found along the beach, and Beach Road (with Barracuda a favourite in the area). There's also a new shopping Mall - Sunset Mall, but despite the shiny steel and modern glass, it's fairly sleepy.
