Overview

Note: New World Private School has been moved to Dubai Arabian American School in Muhaisnah 1.

When in operations, New World Private School (NWPS) offered two curricula. NWPS was a private K-12 school that educated children aged 4 to 18. This co-educational school had separate buildings for boys and girls.

Initially, the school only provided education as per the Ministry of Education (MOE) curriculum. However, in 2017, it introduced the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme for the primary stage. Students opting for the IB programme had the option to pursue mathematics and science in English.

As per the last inspection report by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), the school currently had 1,272 students, out of which most belong to Arab ethnicity. The teaching staff of 89 full-time teachers and five teaching assistants– predominantly Egyptians, supported these students. The school’s student-to-teacher ratio was on the lower side, ensuring great individual attention. In the latest inspection, the New World Private School KHDA rating is ‘Acceptable’.

Why New World Private School (NWPS)?

NWPS was an innovative and student-centric school with a good range of facilities to meet the modern-day needs of students. The facilities, enhanced curriculum and teaching style ensured students receive updated knowledge. The teacher to student ratio of 1:14 ensured students get plenty of attention and care.

The school has introduced the IB programme as an additional curriculum option for students in KG1 to Grade 3. Besides this programme, students also had the option of the MOE curriculum from KG2 till Grade 12. This option allowed parents to select the curriculum best suited for their children.

New World Private School understood the need for non-academic activities. For this purpose, it had a diverse extra-curricular programme covering a wide range of skills. These activities were included in the timetable and made part of the after-school care programme.

New World Private School Curriculum

The New World Private School Dubai followed two separate curricula.

The school followed the Ministry of Education (MOE) curriculum in the early days. However, in 2017, they started adopting the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme. Currently, the school offers education as per the IB syllabus from KG1 to Grade 3. At the same time, the MOE curriculum is available for students from KG 2 to Grade 12.

Primary Year Programme (PYP)

Kindergarten and the initial grades of primary education are the fundamental years of a child’s education. Students develop skills and aptitude to help them in secondary and higher education. For this purpose, the school offered the IB curriculum. The medium of instruction was English.

IB is an internationally recognised programme aimed to develop vocational and practical skills. It fosters inquisitive, creative and critical thinking skills among students. The syllabus is specifically designed to prepare students for the middle years programme. The subjects taught to students in the PYP programme are:

Social Studies Science and Technology
Language Mathematics
Personal, Social and Physical Education Art

Besides IB, students from KG2 also had the option to choose the MOE based programme.

Middle and Senior Year Programme

In the middle year, the school adopted the Ministry of Education (MOE) curriculum for education. Designed specifically for the UAE, the MOE curriculum emphasises local culture and tradition. The medium of instruction was in Arabic, but students can study subjects in English at an additional cost. It resulted in an innovative education system that prepared students for global challenges. It delivered a sound education to students in an international context, helping them become an active part of society. The values of the MOE curriculum are:

  • Principle and values of Islam
  • Science, innovation and technology
  • Citizenship and responsibility
  • Commitment and transparency
  • Participation and accountability
  • Equality and justice

The values mentioned above adopted by NWPS helped create an environment where students thrive academically. Furthermore, they developed a culture of innovation to improve their scientific research and innovation skills.

KHDA Rating

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) is the education regulatory body in Dubai. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum established KHDA in 2006. It aims to improve the quality of education offered by the educational institutes in Dubai. For this purpose, it annually inspects and rates the performances of schools in Dubai. It rates schools’ performances on a specifically designed six-point scale that varies from outstanding to very weak.

KHDA’s rating scale explained

In its laast inspection for the year 2018-19, KHDA rated the performance of NWPS as acceptable. For the last four years, it was consistently rated the minimum acceptable standards set by the KHDA. Before that, the school was rated weak thrice. Here is the summary of KHDA’s ratings for NWPS:

YearsKHDA Rating
2009-2012 Acceptable
2012-2015 Weak
2015-2019 Acceptable

KHDA highlighted several positives for NWPS in the latest report that are as follows:

  • Improvement in the progress and attainment of students in many subjects
  • Good progress by students in Islamic Education and demonstration of a strong understanding of Islamic and Emirati culture
  • The child-centred learning environment for students in KG
  • Role of leadership in improving students’ attainment in mathematics and English
  • The new principal’s commitment to the school’s improvement

Nevertheless, NWPS has room for improvement. One of the critical areas that require significant improvement is students’ health and safety. Therefore, KHDA recommended that the school ensure that its premises are safe for students proactively. KHDA also recommended NWPS to ensure high standard behaviour among boys in upper grades, improve students’ attainment and improve provision for students of determination.
