THE HOLIDAyS ARE OVER BUT THE FUN IS JUST BEGINNING
Now that both Christmas and New Year’s Eve are behind us, you probably thought the fun is over, but you were wrong. These first few months of the year are the perfect time to surrender to Dubai’s non-beach-related charms, especially those of Global Village. Everyone who’s ever been to this brilliantly conceptualised park knows that it is the absolute best cure for the whole family to beat the post-holiday blues. It is the Wild Wadi of different nationalities, a roller coaster ride of world culture. And just like Wild Wadi, Global Village is one of Dubai’s most successful attractions that consistently pops up in Google’s yearly round-up of most searched event topics.
GLOBAL VILLAGE IS THE ULTIMATE POSTMODERN HANGOUT
The CEO of Global Village, Ahmed Hussein bin Essa, has stated that the total of business transactions made by Global Village in 2015 was AED 2,2 billion. The numbers for the season of 2016-2017 are expected to be even higher, which comes as no surprise considering how original Global Village is. Expats and tourists from all corners of the world come to experience the essences of 75 different countries and get to meet people from all kinds of backgrounds which include tradespeople and their products, artists and their shows, magicians, dancers, clowns and much more. It’s the ultimate postmodern hangout, with the entire globe being beneath your feet.
WHAT CAN YOU SEE AT GLOBAL VILLAGE?
From replicas of the Colosseum , the Sydney Opera house and the Statue of Liberty, to the Eiffel Tower and man-made rivers resembling the water canals in Venice, Global Village is host to even street dance shows from Tokyo and Mumbai. Also available is the Cultural Square, the Global Village Boulevard, a Bollywood show with 1,200 colourful costumes, a stunt arena, as well as concerts held by Arab stars such as Nancy Ajram and Cheb Khaled. If you’re on a prowl for presents, Global Village’s numerous pavilions offer everything from Jamaican hats to fine leather goods from Pakistan and the Philadelphia Steak Sandwich. With the Global Village App, you can even plan your entire visit in advance.
WHAT MAKES THE 21ST SEASON DIFFERENT?
This season, there is more content than ever. There are brand new pavilions, such as the Far East pavilion. This one brings to the UAE the essence of Japan, South Korea, Indonesia and the Philippines. Other new pavilions include Algeria, Romania, Serbia and Ukraine, as well as the return of Jordan. The 21st season of Global Village ends on 8th of April so make sure not to miss it. It is especially a great venue to take your visiting friends and family to. To give you a sense of it, our team spent a whole day there and captured a small (tiny, really) part of everything it has on offer. Enjoy!
