DEWA GREEN CHARGER – ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATION IN DUBAI

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority introduced the EV Green Charger Initiative. The move supports His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s vision of sustainable transport in Dubai. TYPES OF DEWA CHARGING STATIONS

Cheaper charging stations announced

In line with the UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategic Initiative and the Dubai Green Mobility Strategy 2030, major upgrades to affordable EV charging infrastructure have been announced. These efforts emphasize higher charger density alongside the introduction of fast, cost-effective charging options. Here are some key highlights:

• Regulated, Affordable Tariffs: Public charging prices on the DEWA network are capped at AED 0.70/kWh for AC charging and AED 1.20/kWh for DC fast charging (plus VAT), offering a cost-effective alternative to petrol.
• Ultra-Fast Charging Expansion: DEWA is working with partners such as Parkin and charge&go (an e& subsidiary) to deploy more than 200 ultra-fast DC chargers from late 2025 through 2027, allowing most EVs to recharge within 15–20 minutes.
• Targeted Free-Charging Initiatives: Limited free-charging programs remain available at select locations and during temporary campaigns, particularly benefiting residential users in specific buildings.
• Taxi Fleet Electrification Support: In partnership with Dubai Taxi Company, DEWA is installing over 208 high-capacity chargers (up to 360 kW) to accelerate the transition of taxi fleets to electric vehicles.

The initiative is part of the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategic Initiative to ease the country into clean energy sources over the next several years.

As per the global electric mobility readiness index, demand for EVs continuing rise. As a result:

• The country plans to introduce over 42,000 electric vehicles by 2030.
• There are plans to install over 70,000 charging points by the same year, with an investment of $200 million.
