Dubai Opera is one of Bayut’s favourite venues. Yes, we’re here to help you find your perfect home through our bread (buy) and butter (rent), but let’s face it – sitting in your house, no matter how luxurious, is not the best way to spend your time. Attending Cameron Mackintosh’s supercalifragilistic musical, Mary Poppins is!
The international award-winning hit musical lands onto the stages of Dubai Opera in Downtown Dubai on May 1st and is going to stay with us until May 18th for two weeks of dazzling choreography, incredible effects and unforgettable songs. It’s the best fun for the family that you’ll find this May.
The musical is set in Edwardian London and it tells the story of a magical nanny, Mary Poppins, who arrives on Cherry Tree Lane with a flying umbrella and a bottomless carpet bag. She is there to take care of a family, the Banks family, who are well-off and a little… Uptight.
The magical nanny and her chimney man friend Bert then take the Banks children on a series of fantastical adventures and teach them the true value of happiness in the process. With the Smart Dubai government initiative to make Dubai the happiest city on Earth (more about this shortly on MyBayut), we couldn’t imagine a better timing for Ms Poppins to make her glamorous landing.
The Mary Poppins production in Dubai Opera is a pitch-perfect adaption of the wonderful stories by PL Travers and the beloved Walt Disney film (pictured above). It is co-created by Cameron Mackintosh with a book by Oscar-winning screenwriter and Downton Abbey creator, Julian Fellowes.
The show’s producer Cameron Mackintosh said: “It’s hard to believe that it is already 12 years since Mary Poppins first landed on the London stage. My goodness……time flies even faster than our beloved Nanny! I’m delighted to be bringing her to Dubai for the very first time, after spreading her magic around the world.”

Chief Executive at Dubai Opera, Jasper Hope said: “Mary Poppins is a magical musical which has enchanted family audiences around the world for a decade – the chance to see this spectacular production now on the GCC’s most incredible live stage is nothing short of supercalifragilistic!”
For those of you who are not at all familiar with the in-joke, supercalifragilistic means… Well, we’re not going to tell you what it means – you’ll simply have to go watch the show!
