Art Dubai Is Back and More Colourful Than Ever
Bayut.com is always on a mission to bring you to closer to your dream home. However, a large part of living one’s dream means getting out of the house, no matter how beautifully decorated and comfortable it is. Luckily, Dubai’s lifestyle and culture scene keep on growing and growing, adding more substance to our sunny, idyllic community. One of the cultural destinations that we believe might be particularly valuable to residents and homeowners, in particular, is Art Dubai.
This year marks the 11th edition of Art Dubai, the leading international art fair that showcases the works of artists from all corners of the world. Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and the Ruler of Dubai, it will be open to visitors from 15th to 18th March at Madinat Jumeirah.
Check out the video from the event here:
The festival will showcase works from 277 artists from over 40 countries around the globe and artists belonging to 60 different nationalities. Furthermore, Madinat Jumeirah will display works from 94 galleries operating in 44 countries across the continents. It is safe to say that, during the course of these four days, Dubai will serve as a global meeting point for artists, art collectors and lovers of art.
GALLERIES
The two main galleries at Art Dubai will be Art Dubai Contemporary and Art Dubai Modern. The former will showcase a variety of artworks, such as paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations, photographs, videos and performances. Exhibitors that will present here are galleries from New York, Rome, Berlin, Paris, Vienna, Antwerp, Istanbul and tens of other countries. The latter will present solo and two-artist exhibitions showcasing only the works from the Middle East, South Asia and Africa. These will be the works of artists whose work has been influential in the 20th century.
AABRAJ GROUP ART PRIZE
For the past eight editions of Art Dubai, The Aabraj Group, a leading private equity investor that supports contemporary artists of the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia, has been awarding one artist in a year with the Aabraj Group Art Prize. This year, they received a record number of applicants (61 countries) and they’ve deemed Rana Begum from Bangladesh the worthy recipient of their 2017 award.
NON-PROFIT & EDUCATIONAL
Furthermore, Art Dubai will host an extensive non-profit programme that will include events with titles as exciting and as promising as Global Art Forum, Modern Symposium, Commissions, Residences, Performances, Films & Podcasts, as well as educational programmes, such as Campus Art Dubai and Art Dubai Fellowship. The Sheikha Manal Little Artists Program should be particularly interesting to parents of children with artistic inclinations.
All in all, Art Dubai promises to live up to its standing as a festival of paramount importance to the art community in the UAE and beyond. Needless to say,Bayut.com recommends you take your time to explore all of the exhibitors and exhibitions and buy an art piece (or several art pieces) for your home decor.
