Sharjah British School - (Private)

The SBS Primary School at present is from Grade 1 to Grade 9. We follow the British National Curriculum with specialist help for second language speakers. It is broken into four Key Stages. Grades 1 & 2 are Key Stage 1. Grades 3, 4, 5, & 6 are Key Stage 2. Grade 7, 8 & 9 is Key Stage 3. The British National Curriculum’s four Key Stages broadly relate to the child’s age and mark the point where a child’s education can be assessed.

These assessments are known as National Tests or Standard Attainment Tests (SATs) these tests are taken at school at the end of each Key Stage i.e. Grade 2 and Grade 6. They help determine what National Curriculum attainment targets students have reached. These tests are in Math and English in Key Stage 1. Math, English and Science in Key Stage 2 and above. These tests usually take place in May. We, at SBS will be introducing these tests during the next two years. Their purpose is to ensure that our school stays on par to similar schools in the U.K.

Attainment targets set out the knowledge and skills that a student is expected to have by the end of each Key Stage. They consist of eight levels of increasing difficulty. At the end of Key Stage 4 our students will sit their IGCSEs in the core subjects, English, Math and Science. They can then choose subjects from the general subjects, Arabic, Islamic Studies, ICT, History, Geography, Art & Design, Music and Physical Education. The Management of SBS places a great deal of emphasis on recruitment of staff. Teachers of the core subjects will be native English speakers and suitably qualified.
