Curriculum / Programs
The nursery aims to provide new learning experiences that are fun and varied that allow a child to explore the world around them. For the younger members of the nursery aged 1 – 3 years we concentrate on four specific areas of learning. Social and emotional Development Speaking and Listening skills Creative Development.Children learn how to play and co-operate with each other. Children should be encouraged to be confident, work independently and in a group and establish good relationships with their peers and adults.A childs vocabulary and fluency are developed through there conversations with their peers and adults. Speaking and listening skills are developed through responding to stories, songs, nursery rhymes and poems. Practical experience in using and understanding simple mathematical vocabulary, which includes comparing, sorting, matching, sequencing, counting, ordering, patterns shapes measurement, time, money, mass, capacity and volume. A child needs to develop knowledge and understanding of their environment, other people and features of the natural and man made world.
Outdoor play is used to build confidence and co-operative skills, increase social awareness, develop hand/eye co-ordination and control in gross motor skills. It also aids physical development. Children explore sound, colours textures and materials using all of their senses. Creative development unites all of the early learning goals as children use their imagination to express themselves.
