Sharjah International Airport design reflects traditional Islamic architecture and is one of the most modern in the region, offering state-of-the art facilities. Situated approximately 10 km from Sharjah town, it is linked by a four lane highway with Port Khalid and Port Khorfakkan, as well as the other Emirates. The airport boasts modern passenger handling facilities and has an annual capacity of over 2.5 million passengers. The terminal is designed for ultimate comfort and convenience and is comparable to the best in the world. The Airport's main features include jet ways to the aircraft, full passenger services, including air-conditioned waiting lounges, well-equipped duty-free areas, and banks, rent-a-car companies, hotel reservations, restaurants, a well-appointed Airport Hotel and excellent transit facilities with a minimum turnaround time. Apart from these, the Airport boasts modernized first class and business class lounges have been modernized, well coordinated ground services and a high standard of aircraft line maintenance.
Facilities
Telephones are available at the airport. Local calls within Sharjah are free of Charge. Cash and credit card telephones are available at Departure, Transit and Arrival domes for International calls & Telephone to other Emirates. Email and Internet facilities for passengers and public are available.There are restaurants and snack bars at the Transit and Departure Lounge,serving Asian, Western and local food. Tea and coffee, fresh fruit juice, soft drinks and light snacks are available 24 hours.Duty free concessions are available for all passengers (Arriving, Departing, and Transit and Transfer passengers).General Post Office is located in the City Center. Postal facilities are also available at the Airport Free Zone (SAIF). In addition, a post office letterbox is provided in the main passenger terminal. Most of the banks are located in the City Center and also in the Airport Free Zone. An ATM is also present in the passenger terminal.
