Institute Of Internal Auditors - (Private)

The Institute of Internal Auditors Inc. (IIA) formed in 1941 in New York. The IIA has gone from a professional body with about 40,000 members worldwide in 1991, to a truly global body with over 120,000 people today. Mr. Steve Goepfert, Chairman – Global IIA estimates that in the next five years membership may well top the 200,000 mark. The IIA is represented worldwide through 96 affiliates and has 153 chapters that service IIA members in more than 160 countries. Throughout the world, The IIA is recognized as the internal audit profession's leader in certification, education, research, and technological guidance. The IIA’s motto is Progress through Sharing.

It is a medium for exchange of ideas and information about Internal Auditors all over the world. The institute is the recognized authority, principal educator, and acknowledged leader in certification, research and technological guidance for the profession world-wide. The IIA administers the examination that leads up to the candidate acquiring the designation of Certified Internal Auditor® (CIA®). More than 50,000 professionals have earned their CIA® designation. The Dubai Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors was set up in 8th July 1995. Several interactive seminars and presentations are held throughout the year.

The main event is the Annual Conference that is held in the month of February or March. On 24th June 2006, the IIA Global Headquarters accorded their approval to change the name of the chapter, to IIA UAE Chapter, reflecting the wider responsibility and the membership profile of IIA Dubai Chapter, having members from across the country. Keeping with the motto of Progress through Sharing, the UAE Chapter has in the past invited leading speakers from various walks and countries to share their expertise and knowledge. We have been fortunate enough to have some of the most respected business leaders that UAE has to offer, address our audience. Audit professionals and professional speakers have come from as far as Singapore, US, the Subcontinent and Europe.

The UAE Chapter is now administering the CIA Exams since November 2001. Of major interest is the kick off of an initiative to have the CIA exams translated in Arabic. Mr. Hans Spoel, the previous Chairman of the Board of Regents who addressed the Annual Gulf Seminar in February 2003, gave his nod in this direction. The Board of Regents is charged with the responsibility of maintaining the effectiveness of the CIA Examination and Certification. For many native Arabic speakers, writing the exam in Arabic could well be a distinct possibility in the future.
