Dubai Center for Special Needs - (Private)

The idea of establishing a Center to serve the needs of individuals with special needs took form in the eighties. Through the efforts of parents of special needs children, a villa was rented in Jumeirah to accommodate five such students. The Center was named "5 Aces". Through the endeavors of the Board Governors, who are still actively involved, the Center expanded to serve the needs of an increased number of students. From the very beginning, the Center has been charitable, non-profit making organization.

H. H. The late Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum kindly donated two beach-side villas in Jumeirah. Over the years, the Center has received immense support and encouragement from H. H. Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum - Ruler of Dubai, with follow up from H. H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum - Crown Prince of Dubai and Minister of Defense.

In early 1990, H. H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Commander-Military Command, very kindly donated a large piece of land (300,000 sq. ft.). Upon this land, a center with the capacity to accommodate approximately 200 students was build.
Facilities
The Center was purpose-built with the special needs of our students in mind. The Classrooms are bright, cheerful and spacious. The Center has three therapy departments, all equipped with the latest in special assessment equipment. Through intense fundraising efforts, the center recently added on a new wing of classrooms and a magnificent, well equipped multi-purpose hall. A gymnasium, equipped fitness center and swimming pool, managed by qualified Physical Education Teachers, are available for the physical benefits of the students. The Center also houses a medical clinic, an observation room, two libraries, a music room, an Arts & Crafts room, and a wood-working shop.

These facilities along with the Center's emphasis on therapy, education, social skills, environment, nutrition and play make a virtual Utopia for a child's all-round development. Dubai Center for Special Needs is a very special place for very special people.
Curriculum / Programs
The following curriculum explains the way in which Dubai Center for Special Needs works and what we hope to achieve through our education and therapy programs:

The curriculum is based on the principle that each student is an individual and should be given every possible opportunity for education appropriate to their needs and for personal, social, physical and emotional development.

The curriculum seeks to consider each student as a whole, and to take into account his/her cultural and life experiences.

It is our intention that each student shall acquire knowledge, concepts, skills, attitudes and behavior patterns that will increase his/her independence.

Objectives set for each student, in line with this curriculum, form the basis of classroom, individual and home programs. Home programs are evaluated by both staff and parents.
