Al Noor Centre - (Private)
|
“THE AL NOOR TRAINING CENTRE FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS" opened its doors in Dubai on November 21st, 1981, starting with only eight children. Currently we serve 220 children and look forward to accommodating up to 300 children in the new facility. The Centre runs under the auspices of the Ministry of Social Affairs. An appointed Board of Governors formulates the governing policies, which are then implemented by the Director of the Centre.
This website sets out the aims of the Centre, the way in which classes are grouped and the goals and aspirations of the Therapy Departments and Vocational Programme at Al Noor. Whilst every school needs the discipline of structure based on chronological age, we are acutely aware of the need to be very flexible in our dealings with our Special Needs Children. At all times we aim to meet the individual needs-and maximize the potential – of each and every one of our children.
We stress the importance of working with parents to create a harmony between home and school, and to ensure that we are all working towards mutual goals. Parents attend parent-teacher meetings twice each year when they have an opportunity to meet every member of the multi-disciplinary team dealing with their child at Al Noor.

A MULTI-DISCIPLINARY TEAM consisting of a Special Educator, Speech and Language Therapist, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Psychologist, Vocational Trainer, Sports Instructor, Computer Teacher, Islamic and Arabic Teacher, Art & Craft and Music Teacher formulates a programme for each child, after a detailed assessment. In all the classes, as well as in the Therapy Units, a similar structure is followed. An assessment is first done to determine the child’s level of functioning. Goals are selected in the different areas of development. The programme is drawn up and implemented and finally, an evaluation is done. Classroom goals are selected from the Curriculum, for each child, according to his or her level of functioning.
THE-TRAINING-PROGRAM-PAGE6-.jpg The Curriculum at Al Noor has been put together with input from all the professional staff of AL Noor. The Curriculum consists of a checklist of objectives in all the areas of development, arranged in developmental sequence, from the most basic skill to independency. The areas covered include not only Academics, Self –Help skills, Motor skills, Language and Socialization but also extra-curricular activities like Vocational skills, Leisure Activities, Music, Personal Welfare and Safety, Wheelchair skills, Self-Awareness, etc.
An Individual Education Plan (IEP) is made for each child. The term goals are selected from the Curriculum in the different areas, in consultation with the members of the multi-disciplinary team. These are further broken up into small workable units and weekly goals are set. The child’s performance of these tasks is recorded every day. After the completion of one task in one area, the next task is taken up. Instruction is, therefore, highly individualized and structured.
The IEP is a detailed record of the child’s performance level in all areas. The aim of the Training Programme at Al Noor is to help each child reach his or her maximum potential in all areas of development. Islamic Studies, Arabic, Self Awareness Program, Behavior Modification Program, Vocational Training.
