As expected, the last month of the year provided the operation with some new sales statistics, when daily sales on the 20 th December, Dubai Duty Free's 23rd Anniversary, soared to an unprecedented Dhs29.5 million (US$8.2 million). The month of December also set a new monthly record with sales topping Dhs 290 million (US$ 80 million). Outlining the highlights of the past twelve months, Colm McLoughlin, Managing Director of Dubai Duty Free said: “2006 was a fantastic year and one that saw a number of renovations and additions to the retail operation, including the opening of a new extension of the Arrivals Duty Free in Terminal 2, the opening of the new HomeWare Shop, the refurbishment of the Electronics zone and the Fashion area.
I would like to extend my thanks to H. H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum for his support and join H. H. in thanking all of our staff for their contribution towards the operation's success this year.” The statistics behind the sales figures in 2006 reflect the phenomenal level of business undertaken at Dubai Duty Free: in 2006 the total number of sales transactions was close to 16 million, which represents an average of 44,000 sales transactions undertaken every 24 hours, 365 days of the year. Individual categories which showed exceptional growth in 2006 include Cosmtics, which rose by 41%,Luggage and Travel Accessories by 33%, Magazines and Stationeries by 32%, Gadgets by 32% and Gifts from Dubai , which was up 49%. The Arrivals Duty Free sales grew by 25% and this department now accounts for 8% of total sales. In the past year, Dubai Duty Free continued to attract international media attention and was the recipient of the Business Traveller Middle East award for ‘Best Airport for Duty Free Shopping' and still retained its Superbrand status when once again awarded by the Superbrands Council of the UAE.

Sales have already increased by 350%, since the opening of the new sunglass shop where we stock over 35 brands. Men's Fashion Boutiques: Everything for the smart man-about-town from top designers and well known fashion houses. Food Plus: Delicatessen, fine foods, confectionery, household items, baby care, budget cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, health food and linen - just a selection of the many items available. Dubai Duty Free is the No. 1 airport retailer in the world for Nestlé food and confectionery products. Cameras: From simple point and shoot models to sophisticated SLR's and digital cameras, together with binoculars and telescopes.
Electronics: You will find a vast range of the latest items in the electronics section – DVD players, compact hi-fi systems, televisions, radio cassette recorders, mini-discs, electronic keyboards, mobile phones, laptop computers, household appliances, fax machines and much more.
