Kings' Dubai - (Private)
|
Our dictum,” the best by every child” describes the very essence of our work. We have high expectations of our pupils and although the search for academic excellence is at centre stage, pastoral care and personal development in the form of moral strength and stability, creativity, self-discipline and physical well-being are highly significant aspects of an education at Kings’. Together they embrace the needs of the whole child by way of preparation for participation in a fast moving, rapidly changing international community.
At Kings’ we take strength from the very best of British education, which together with the expertise of well qualified teachers deploying the very latest methods of teaching and learning, offers a curriculum that enables pupils to achieve their academic potential and ensures, whatever his/her competence and capabilities that each child becomes a life-long learner; thoughtful, self-aware and tolerant of others.
Teachers have been selected for their expertise and experience so that we are able to offer a broad and balanced curriculum which places success at the heart of our spirit and purpose. Specialists teach ICT, Music, Physical Education, French and Arabic.
Curriculum / Programs
Foundation StageThe Foundation Stage Curriculum is play and experience led and aims to provide a happy, safe, caring and practical environment where children can explore and experiment. We provide opportunities for development in every area of a child’s learning; physical, intellectual, emotional, social and moral.
There is a focus on independence, development of skills by encouraging children to think for themselves and make choices, develop a love of learning and positive attitudes to school.
Key Stage 1
Key Stage 1 builds upon the learning experiences in the Foundation Stage. Children enjoy a range of experiences, ranging from creative and practical activities to more formal written activities. Using a thematic approach to teaching, combining Literacy with key Science, History, Geography and Design Technology topics, our theme work also incorporates meaningful art. The use of I.C.T in the classroom, role-play and school trips also enhances the curriculum. There is major focus on key Literacy skills like reading, spelling and handwriting. Math is an important area and children receive.
Our curriculum is supported by Specialist lessons - P.E., I.C.T, French, Arabic and Music. Throughout KS1 children are encouraged to develop their ‘best presentation work’, examples of which are kept in portfolios.
Key Stage 2
Children are encouraged, through drafting and editing processes, to produce final work which is presented in A4/A3 formats. Art is an intrinsic part of our skill based curriculum, with children encouraged to create water colour illustrations. Specialist lessons provide enriched activities for Music, PE, Languages and ICT. Regular trips and excursions support the curriculum. Information Communication Technology. ICT is now a fundamental feature of education at all levels and is a highly valued part of the learning process at Kings. Using wireless and portable technologies enables every space to become a learning space.
All areas have multimedia capability and utilize associated hardware, such as printers, cameras and scanners. All classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards and projectors. Our comprehensive range of software includes BeCTA award winners such as ICT Alive, Softease and Easiteach.
ICT supports cross curricular themed work, but is also taught as a specialist subject in its own right, where students develop key skills including word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, control technology and graphics packages. Research shows that the use of ICT enhances communication and the learning process. ICT provides parents and pupils with data relating to attainment and attendance and supports our school wide ‘Personalised Learning’ ethos.
Music
Music plays a central role in the life of the students at Kings´ Dubai both within the school day and during extra curricular opportunities. The curriculum enables children to compose, perform and listen to music from a range of genres and styles. Children learn both graphic and staff notation and have the opportunity to use tuned and untuned percussion and electronic keyboards. The use of music technology supports learning with children from Years 1-6 using a number of notation and composition programs. Children regularly perform and are encouraged to use self assessment and peer appraisal to enhance and develop composition skills. The whole school also gathers together once a week to sing. Outside the curriculum children are offered a number of opportunities including individual peripatetic lessons, percussion, guitar and keyboard clubs. There are also Key Stage 1 and 2 Choirs.
Languages
Arabic is taught from Year 1 and covers conversational and social studies. The children are encouraged to use everyday terminology and lessons are mainly practically based on real life situations. Arabic is a compulsory component of the curriculum in the U.A.E. French is also taught from Year 1 and the emphasis is on offering students a firm, confident grounding in conversation. Wherever possible, French lessons are linked to current themes of study.br>
The French and Arabic programs of study are enhanced by the students´ contributions to assemblies and days devoted to the languages and the associated cultures. We feel that it important that languages are not studied in isolation and are given context whenever appropriate.
Physical Education
children at Kings´ Dubai enjoy a rich variety of experiences in Physical Education. It is a sad fact, but there is a worldwide increase in obesity levels and a decline in sporting participation! Physical Education is very important at Kings´ Dubai and an interest in PE is stimulated through imaginative, worthwhile activities, which help to promote a lifelong interest in sport. These enable our students to receive all the positive impacts that PE has to offer. Opportunities will be provided in purpose built facilities for swimming, gymnastics, team sports and ‘track and field’ events. Specialist lessons are differentiated and deliver up to the minute teaching theories and methods such as ‘Sport Education’, ‘tactical games approach’, ‘inner game understanding’ and ‘Personalized Learning’. Developing theoretical knowledge and understanding is considered an integral aspect of Physical Education, as well as improving the health, fitness, social skills and the ‘personal bests’, of our children. Students plan, participate in and evaluate their work, appropriate to their age and their needs. Our students also take part in regular sporting competitions and galas.
