Curriculum / Programs
Primary Years Programme:

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) offers an opportunity for students to acquire essential skills in an atmosphere where deeper understanding of concepts is nurtured. The programme caters for students from the age of 6 to 11. Educators build on students' prior knowledge to drive teacher/student constructed research projects within the conceptual framework of the curriculum. The programme is committed to enquiry as a vehicle for learning through the concepts of form, function, causation, change, connection, perspective, responsibility and reflection. Educators endeavor to develop individuals who will continue exploring their gifts and talents as lifelong learners, demonstrating positive attitudes towards people and the environment, successfully contributing to society.

Middle Years Programme:

Uptown School in Mirdif offers the Middle Years Programme (MYP) to provide a top class education up to Grade 9. MYP, designed for students between the ages of 11 and 16, provides a seamless progression from PYP to the highly regarded IB Diploma. MYP is a broad based programme in which students must study in their first language (Language A), a second language (Language B), Science, Mathematics, Humanities, Physical Education, Technology and Arts.

The main aims of the MYP are to give students.
A sound knowledge base across a wide range of subjects.
The ability to find and process information.
A holistic view of human understanding.
Skills in communicating.
An awareness of their role in society.

MYP students are at an important age of transition of personal, social, physical and intellectual development, of uncertainty and questioning, and of searching for relevance and meaning. Emerging adolescents, influenced by their years of primary schooling, are entering a phase where their social and cultural experiences in and outside school have a determining impact on their perception of themselves, their self-esteem, their sense of identity and their capacity to relate to others. The programme is devised to help students develop the knowledge, attitudes and skills they need to participate actively and responsibly in a changing and increasingly interrelated world. This implies a 'living curriculum' (Beane, 1990), one which calls for more than 'knowing'. It involves reflective thinking, both critical and creative, about ideas and behaviors. It includes problem solving and analysis, clarification and discussion of personal beliefs and standards on which decisions are made. It also leads to critical thinking and action.
